At least it makes it a smaller loss when he goes. He's really just a filler for that part of the game.
What would be funny, is if he had some uber-powerful attack that he could learn.

Pretty much the entire world would change what they say after every plot event. I spent hours just talking to people over and over, always marveling at how much detail Game Arts / Working Designs put into that aspect.
I definitely marvel at the depth WD put into porting those games.
Too bad that I don't have the patience to explore all the dialogue :| .
As for the pop culture jokes and such, I kind of roll my eyes at them, but it's a change from the normal RPG flair at the very least (even if outdated).

I intend to begin playing the PS1 version where I left off barely after receiving my quest from Quark) and play until I leave the continent, and then see if I'm still interested.

For the record, I consider the Sega CD version to be a different game (and just as awesome). Anyone playing that one?

Sega CD version feels a bit too primitive compared to the PSX remake. Plus, I already completed two Working Designs RPGs for Sega CD this year and I'm feeling a bit burnt out with that platform.

I remember back in the 90s that this was this game that made me really upset I didn't own a PlayStation.

:o Never thought I'd hear that sentence fragment uttered by you. At least, you've never seemed the type to be put off by quaintness.
You stated the truth though; it is rather primitive, at least by comparison to the remakes.

It was quite the step up from 8-bit RPG's though.
I cannot describe to you the sense of wonder I felt even perusing the adverts in gaming mags in the mid to late 90's. The NES is the only system I owned at the time. Late 90's I finally got a Genesis and a cheap used Sega CD (yes, they were cheap once  ) shortly after. Lunar was among the top of my want list and I was not disappointed when I finally acquired it.

Of course, I've always been behind the times and I was quite RPG famished back then. I definitely have a nostalgia bias for the game.

Played the PSP remake about a year ago and loved it. Characters were great and there was alot of detail put into the world. Funniest thing I remember were the "soap" unlocks  .

I've only played the Playstation port of the 2nd game...and, I happened to pick up a Sega CD yesterday. Promptly started this up as soon as I got home with it.

Not very far yet, did some grinding outside the first cave, got Alex up to lvl 5. The encounter rate in this game seems very wild. Sometimes I get battles after what seems like half a step, other times (usually when I want a battle) it seems like I could traverse the whole damn game without getting a fight.

There are some odd things here, like having no idea what Luna's songs do (well, without just trying them or guessing), but there is something really cool about this game being pumped out of a Sega Genesis. My girl was just like "No... this isn't a Sega game. No way"

If I can make it through this, I hope to have time to get to the 2nd game on the CD as well, since then I could actually compare it to the ps port.

Oh... and Wheaties.

You know sadly I've looked up the prices for both in and in the way i'd like to play them...ouch(especially since I do now own a functioning psone that just needs a power cord to hurry up and get here, and earthbound o_O ). Sure I own lunar on psn but where's the fun in that?

I know but i thought it would be interesting to play something other than spyro(since that is honestly the only game I think I've ever had a chance of playing on psone since I was raised nintendo) on psone(though I do have a few titles for the system now, none of them are rpg's last I checked  )

Well, there is a nice complete copy on the bay for $65, and a copy still including the outer box and sick manual for $45.

Then you could play Lunar AND something other than spyro on your ps1. Win!

 Yeah I have been known to enjoy my share of old-school RPGs that turn others off (The 7th Saga, Brandish, etc...).

Thing is, when a game has a remake that improves virtually every aspect of the original sometimes it's tough to go back. At this point, if I want to play Final Fantasy I'm more apt to play Origins / DoS / PSP vs. the NES original.

On that same note, I'm also a huge ports junkie so I tend to feel I have some "unfinished business" unless I've played every version of a game I enjoy (see Ys Book I & II).

Anyhow, just rolled into the magic city of Vane. Moving slowly, only putting in about an hour a day. I except some of you other dudes to inch ahead of me soon.
