That was incredibly informative, and scary as hell. It would have been far more comforting if she had some sort of answers for what exactly we could or should do. In general I try not to worry about things beyond my control, but that is a chilling proposition.J T wrote:Here is an interesting and frightening talk about how unprepared we are for a deadly strain of flu:

Damn roma gypsies and their magic talismans!!
But no for real, I don't get a flu shot and never have. I also don't use hand sanitizer endlessly. I wash my hands, I occasionally take vitamins (need to get back into that habit, fell out of it after I quit GNC), and I'm blessed with a healthy immune system. I have nothing against immunizations, I think the anti-vaxxers are crazy, but the simple fact of the matter is, for me at least, I have an excellent immune system. I literally don't even remember the last time I went to the doctor other than the physical I was (honestly, inexplicably) required to have as part of my job application process for 911.
For as far back as I can remember (10-15 years or more), I have been able to expect that one "weekend" (two day stretch) a year, I will feel under the weather -- not puking or diarrhea or anything, just run down with maybe a cold. I'll sleep damn near the entire day, waking only to drink OJ (I'll go through a gallon that weekend) and use the bathroom, maybe eat something.
There's certainly something to be said for the concept of herd immunity, and my selfishness at avoiding doctors causing problems for someone else, and I may consider that in the future, but for now I'm gonna keep doing what's worked for me for my entire adult life.
