Hypothetically, lets say hybrid wins. Would yall prefer months based on genres or companies?

Examples:
January is Sega Month so chose between:
1. Super Hang-On
2. Zillion
3. Shining in the Darkness

Or January is racer month so choose between:
1. Daytona USA
2. Final Lap Twin
3. Super Sprint

The problem I have with genres is that there are some genres we always represent (platformer for example), and other games which are less defined or more niche in their genre get overlooked. Pinball as a genre isn't too likely to come up. What genre is Toejam and Earl, and is it a genre likely to appear?

What if we don't have many good options for a certain genre, but still want that game to be given a chance?

That said, I'm not sure a developer decision works for me either. Choosing the 12 developers seems tricky, and with the varying sizes and prominence of developers some could have hundreds of possibilities whilst ohers have only a few viable choices mostly within a certain genre. I wouldnt want to limit the selection of the former from appearing more than once in a year, but I wouldnt want to deny the latter's game a chance to appear based on their lack of genre diversity.

I almost feel like I'd rather the committee just each chooses any 12 games of different genres to play. You could group like ones together (so if 2 people choose an RPG, they'll be options in the same month, preventing duplicate genres), and any leftover or unique games/genres could just be compiled into certain months too.

That could be a little more complicated, but I like the idea of no arbitrary boundaries to the game choices.

Who else is going to jump into the writing team? Again, I really think at this point that since Nick writes little to nothing for the front page that it really is incumbent on the community to write up the articles for the games chosen.

In my view, if you nominate a game you should be willing to write about it for the month.

I would be willing to give it a go, if someone would proof it for me. My one and only article posted on the site before now is riddled with typos and it's kinda put me off

What context are you talking about?

Are you saying someone who nominates a game should be willing to write one of these?

Yup. They aren't hard to do, per se, but can be an extra few hours of work near a deadline...

I voted list but I kinda agree with Dsheinem. I think that way people will in any case put forward games they are very passionate about. I can think of one or two games I'm passionate about where I'd be willing to do a write up and as a result will probably be much more active in the TR thread that month.

Also agree with the selecting from a genre method.

I have no problem writing about a game if I want to nominate it for Together Retro. My only worry is that if I did a write up, it'll be too long.

For fun, I wrote an beginner's guide on importing for the Super Nintendo as a Word document, thinking it would be maybe 2-3 paragraphs. Nope. 739 words and 2 pages later and I'm still not done.

And while I haven't voted on the poll yet, I probably will go with hybrid.

Also I agree, I prefer genres over companies.

We've never done companies before. Could be fun.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
