Really? That's weird, Nintendo usually doesn't pull this kind of crap. Now if it was square, they'd ask the CIA to help track the actors in the fan filmdarsparx wrote:Oh and @ZeroAX we did have a fan made zelda film(that was halfway decent for a indie film) too bad nintendo caught wind of it and shut it down...don't think I still have my copy of it anywhere now >_>

Man I watch this over a decade ago

To this day it still feels like the best animated version of Sonic. Though I also remember loving Sonic SatAM as a kid.
Are the archie comics any good? And take into consideration that I'm a sonic fan so I can put up with a lot of stupidity.

I don't know about now(because I haven't read them in a few years mostly because I only read them because I got someone to buy them for me) but yes they are good. Especially the "little" part where they have at least one comic that explores their youth when they were in elementary school. Those parts are especially funny when it comes to reading it.
And when I said a little bit I meant that it's not the best movie, but it's a enjoyable one if you can still find a way to watch it

The Archie Sonic comics are... not something you'd want to just jump into unprepared. The early ones are like a combination of the 90's Sonic Ccrtoons but they grew a lot more serious over time.ZeroAX wrote:little bitdarsparx wrote:yeah just look up the hero of time, you'll see a listing for a indie movie(and some details about it) sad because I enjoyed that one a little bit. Eventually it morphed into a huge furry soap opera. The last time I looked into them was when Archie started the Mega Man comics and while the mood seems lightened a little there's still over two decades of continuity with boatloads of original characters on top of the boatload of Sega characters.

@Zero - ha found the movie might as well download it while I'm thinking about it...it was free anyways back then >_>

Re: Sonic movie coming.
I was reading it back in 97-98 when I lived in the states and I quite enjoyed it. I found a torrent of it, but it's way too long, and the early stuff are way too much like the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (the bad Sonic cartoon). Is there a good point I can start reading the series from? Meaning the point it starts getting more serious.Gunstar Green wrote: The Archie Sonic comics are... not something you'd want to just jump into unprepared. And huge furry soap opera sounds exactly like what Sonic Team was always aiming for

Re: Sonic movie coming.
It starts moving away from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and acting more like the other Sonic cartoon pretty quickly. Robotnik retains a bit of humor and isn't quite as dark as the one from that cartoon but also is really damned evil and not as silly as the Adventures Robotnik. I really enjoy the evil eccentric genius take on the character in the Archie comics. It's almost like a prototypical version of the modern Eggman.
It enjoyed reading it in the 90's from around the teens to issue 50 (the 90's were coming to a close and a certain dramatic re-branding was on the horizon so the comics had to adapt). After that they sort of lose direction and when the Dreamcast came out they tried to bring those new elements of Segasonic into the comic creating this awkward mix.
I lost interest after that and it seems like a lot of people agree that the comic suffered from ups and downs in both the art and storytelling for years. It didn't help that Archie kept piling on their own characters while Sega kept piling on their own characters and Archie had to keep jumping through hoops trying to tell their own original stories while also adapting the new games to fit into their universe. Your mileage may vary.
It had sort of a renaissance in recent years having the main comic going back to focusing mainly on Sonic and the core Freedom Fighters while banishing side-stories about all of the extended universe characters to their own book titled Sonic Universe. I read it for a while online but it didn't really hold my interest enough to read it regularly.
Even now there's still a lot of little continuity references that make you feel like you've missed something unless you've read through the whole run and all of its various spin-offs and mini-series and one-off specials.
Archie's Mega Man is pretty good, they've started bringing in original characters there too but the ones they've introduced make sense, they're trying hard not to make the same mistakes they made with Sonic over the years.
The Sonic and Mega Man crossover series "Worlds Collide" was a lot of fun and it takes place in an alternate dimension outside of the continuities of either comic so it's newbie friendly. I suggest checking that out.

Re: Sonic movie coming.
Archie's Sonic series is pretty up-and-down in quality but I keep reading/collecting.
The early issues are super-goofy, then it got a little more serious and SatAM-like from around issues 20-50, then it took a left turn "killing" Robotnik and floundered for a looong while (the Knuckles series picked up the slack until it ended). The series improved after getting rid of writer Ken Penders with issue #160. (With some occasional high points: there was a "Mobius: 25 Years Later" which is super-satisfying if you're the kind of person who wants to read about grown-up married King Sonic & Queen Sally or wondered what Knuckles' daughter would be like.)
My favorite non-nostalgic issue was #174, that one really convinced me to get back into Sonic after letting my subscription lapse with issue #100 and just occasionally picking up random issues from time to time. I'd recommend checking out this collection containing that story arc.
Unfortunately after that, the continuity has been rebooted a couple times which is total cop-out storytelling IMO. I thought the Mega Man crossover was creatively bankrupt and completely bland. To me, it just felt like a marketing gimmick that lasted twice as long as it should have. And of course, that crossover ended with a continuity reboot and the series is still finding its footing as a result... I just find it frustrating. But I keep reading...

Re: Sonic movie coming.
I enjoyed certain stories from the comic. I too stopped reading them in the late 90s. Looking back, I actually prefer the silly ones from the early 90s to the more serious ones. It just became a lot of melodrama for 12 year olds. I liked the saturday morning cartoon and certain ideas from it inspired what I wrote. The main problem with it was that it felt inspired by 80s fantasy movies versus the sci-fi that fits Sonic better. Always veered in a weird robin hood fantasy direction instead of incorporating elements from the games that actually would have been really cool to see adapted. I remember in particular there was an episode where Robotnik built a robotic cheetah that Sonic raced. Even at 9 years old I was thinking... "Why didn't they use metal sonic here?". But I did like the ominous vibe and Robotnik's whole design/voice/presence was really cool.
