Played the demo. Yeah, it's fun. I'm not sure if the Metroid approach meshes well with what was a very fast paced arcade game though I get it's there to boost playtime. I wonder if this has potential for speed runs? I like the graphics and the jump arc is near enough spot on.

As far as projectiles go, I read that later on you get an upgrade that reflects back normal fire. The slide you get is also pretty useful for shot avoidance. If I wasn't so skint I'd buy the full version.

They already did the Metroid approach with the NES game, so it's not like this is new. As far as speed runs, I noticed that there was an achievement for beating the game in under 4 hours (I think that was the amount of time anyway), so I'd say that there's a fair chance people will be going for speed runs.

I don't know much about the NES game, but isn't it more like Ducktales than straight Metroidvania? There are set levels and the items in the levels open up access to areas in others but it's not one continuous map. That's how it seemed on game grumps. And wall jumping sucks.

Note that the Windows version runs at 60fps, if the machine can't keep up you lose gameplay frames.

Just coming back in to change the thread title to reflect the game's release. I bought the game, but I haven't played it yet. Artbook's a bit disappointing, though.
