First off, WCLEM..... I'm so jealous of you right now. I feel like I've supported Sony enough that I deserved to be a beta tester..... but no! LOL. I have hundreds of their games in physical form, hundreds more digital, early adopter to every system launch, yadda yadda. And no beta for me. :(

LOL.

Anyway, I'm a bit bummed by how Sony is handling this. I thought for sure that they'd figure out a way for you to stick your physical disk into the system, let it read the TOC and maybe some DRM, and then let you stream the game for free, since you already own it. That would have gotten the backwards compatibility out of the way. But I hate the idea of "renting" games. Especially if I already own them. For me, it's not about convenience... it's about whats right. C'mon Sony! Make it right!

I guess it is what it is. I'm not a business man, nor do I understand their strategy. I'm sure they'll make money, and my measly little amount I've spent doesn't amount to anything for them really. But man I had my hopes up.

Oh well, if nothing else, hopefully the PS1 and PS2 emulation rumors are more than just rumors?

That doesn't really make sense....because you still own those games. If you want to play them, then play them on the consoles in which you bought them for. No one bought Crash Bandicoot to play them on a PS4 16 years later, so I don't think it's very fair to make this a morale discussion, when quite frank, the consumer is being greedy.

Don't feel bad, you are not missing out on much. Game selection is terrible, not really good enough to make me want to test it out. No reason to test it just to play games I have no interest in. Most of them are cheap indie games that were not very good even when they were released.

I got one of the beta invite e-mails, but I've yet to receive the voucher e-mail. From what it sounds like, there's not much to look at, but I'd still like to check it out myself.

I can't imagine that the ISPs in the US are providing anywhere NEAR the bandwidth/speed/etc. to make this viable outside of maybe a couple of big markets.

I have a feeling that this is going to pan out to be a terrible investment for Sony. I don't see anyone but retro gamers wanting to go back and play a lot of PS1,2 and possibly 3 games. Most gamers want what is current. I think that Backwards Compatibility is really a niche feature and that it's probably not something that a majority of consumers are concerned about. Not, saying that it wouldn't be great if companies tried really hard to include BC, but I can see why they don't.

They might see it as a way to convince some customers to move to the current gen systems earlier than they would have. It will play all those titles you're currently wanting to play on the old systems, plus the new stuff! :P

I have damn near the fastest speed Time Warner offers and it played ok. There was stuttering and some issues. I think it will be ok for casual players but for those who need perfection they may want to avoid it.

BTW, I have streamed about 15 youtube vids at once without lag, LOL. I was goofing around one day and wanted to test out how many I could get going. So if I see delays, well most people will see delays.

I would think that latency is going to be the biggest limiting factor. A lot of people can't even play online multiplayer games without significant lag problems when the game is in their optical drive or on their hard drive.

But streaming the game assets and what-not too?

And what about data caps? It seems like there are all kinds of infrastructure problems in the US for a service like this. I wish Sony all the best, but I'm worried they have backed a wrong horse on this one...

Thankfully no data cap here yet! I dont understand why you just are not able to download the game to your system then it just times out after the rental expires. Also I would be more likely to re-rent if I already had it installed.
