Every ship has advantages. Autraleyus is the best at multiplying, but you have to be extremely aggressive and he will score very well in-stage, but his bonuses are low as you let so much stuff past you. He is a beast on bosses 1 and 2, but he's nearly impossible to use on 3rd boss (unless you use his weak tap shot, but the battle will last awhile).

Windia is good - decent power and good screen clearing shot. Having a shot do a loopdy-loop is not ideal for chaining in some stages though.

Peplos is not very powerful but is very fast. He enables you to get everything on screen which is HUGE for end stage bonuses (clear and secret).

Hellhound is all-around, does everything pretty well but nothing great.

Both Nico ships are pretty good. Nico 135 has a real nice spray shot which is critical in latter stages.

Scoring is done in 2 major ways:
In stage:
-Chaining
-Multiplying
-Milking
-Bullet Canceling

End stage:
Clear (enemies cleared)
Secrets (discovered gems, powerups, angels, and panels)
Boss Clear (time to clear the boss - some bosses are better being milked, those w/cancelable bullets)
LUCKY bonus - 1K per letter, but if you spell the entire word, it's worth 50K, then 100K, etc.

I've been getting 60% of my score on boss and end stage bonuses, getting LUCKY on the first 3 stages...usually. The Y on stage 3 is a tough one to get.

I also got a Chinese symbol inside a red angel a couple times today - not sure how much it increased multiplier or what triggered it? Maybe getting 2 red angels in a row? I seem to get it on stage 3 after getting red angels on the first 2 stages.

AFAIK there are no extends.

Another score opportunity is to not miss the bonuses. At the end of my run, each one was netting me 40K.

More stuff -

Hold button A to charge, pres button B to break during charge. Made a mistake earlier, I will change that post to have the correct buttons.

Also, watch how you charge. If you don't fully charge your meter (let go before it fills up), there will be a slight period of recovery in which you can not charge it once the meter empties. But, if you fully charge it, as soon as it the meter is empty, you can charge again.

No extends as far as I know (cannot be changed in MVS options). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The first score update will be before midnight. Looking good so far.

I see such an amazing score by mjmjr25 on the ship that can't power up, even!

Actually, don't count that score. Just read on shmups forums that Peplos isn't allowed in Hi-Score competitions because of a scoring bug. I think it has to do with his multiplier - his 3-way shot manages to always hit something and keeps the chain going.

It's all good - i'm falling in love w/Dino246 at max power, he creates a bullet canceling shield and his power shot destroys bosses in a hurry. Takes a bit to get him built up, but super powerful and his break shot is almost like a bomb. The hardest part is seeing the bullets through all the madness he creates.

Noted, thanks. Although I'm curious as to see how it's like with no powerups. I won't be counting scores w/Peplos, but give it a try if you like.

I'll have to give the Dino ships a try too.
