The lyrical masterpiece that is the MvC2 selection song is worth the price of admission alone.

Open two or three YouTube tabs with the music out of sync in the same vein as "Row your Boat" and you'll enter a state of absolute zen.
"Farewell, good hunter.
May you find your worth
in the waking world."

LOL i'm the same way, i don't hate MvC3 but i think it's boring to watch and don't understand why it's so popular. KoF 13 is my favorite fighting game to watch tournament wise.

This thread reminded me that I had been meaning to buy MvsC2 for dreamcast for a few years now. I just bought myself a copy. Thanks, OP.

I never really understand the reason for why digital XBLA or PSN games need to be taken down.... Its not like Capcom doesn't fully own the rights to MvC2... very strange to me.

While I am tempted to pick this up for the PS3, I think I will just stick with my copies on the dreamcast, xbox, and ps2

Certainly, Capcom owns the code and the rights to all of its characters. Capcom's use of Marvel characters, however, is under license from Marvel Entertaiment (or Disney, or whoever owns them at this point), and once the license expires, Capcom can no longer distribute games containing those characters without violating the owner's copyright. Accordingly, the games will have to be taken down when Capcom's license to use Marvel characters expires.

EDIT: It would be awesome if Capcom kept the game up and simply re-skinned all of the Marvel characters into well-known public domain characters like Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Zorro, all the characters in The Wizard of Oz, Hercules, Cthulu, The Cheshire Cat, etc.

DOUBLE EDIT: The more I think about it, that would be really f*cking awesome. Get on it Capcom!

No. You can't shit on the digital versions, call them shoddy ports and then say the PS2 port is "Solid". The PS2 port is awful. The longest load times of any home version of the game, Terribly degraded audio throughout, stage specific slowdown (I'm looking at you ice level), Washed out graphics, massive screen tearing visuals, altered hitboxes making trademark combos and juggle setups worthless. This version has the most difficult time handling more than 2 characters onscreen without succumbing to slowdown and visual degrading.

If it becomes legit on GGPO then that would be the best thing anyways
Until then though, these digital versions will be more than adequate and where the respective community will continue to play from, outside of a tournament gathering with a DC or NAOMI setups running the game of course. MvC2 has perhaps the best netcode of any Capcom game currently in the market.

I know you meant Capcom vs. Public Domain - and I agree that it would be awesome - but I think that Capcom vs. Pubic Domain would be even crazier.
