Re: Do We Really Want a Dreamcast 2?
At one point not too long a go I did want Sega to come back in the console biz. However I finally came to terms that maybe it wasnt plausible. Or in Segas best interest to try and jump in a traditional console war. It was sort of like finally coming to terms that Santa didnt really exist for me.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

I support all of this: Dreamcast 2, 3, portable, Sega Channel revival, everything!
except the Ouya idea. I would rather just...that should stay the Ouya.

I think it is just way to late. Think of all the games that already got released on other systems. Outrun 2, Panzer Dragoon, Nights, Virtua Fighter, all the Sonics, House of the Dead. This list could go on for a very long time. Now that people can play great Sega games without a Sega system there is no turning back. People will not buy it when almost all of Sega's IP's can be found else where, so who needs a Sega system. I really don't like that Sega games are spead across 5 or so systems now instead of just one. Some one may have to buy a XB, PS2, PS3, Wii and so on just to play Sega stuff. It would have been alot cheaper to just buy one Sega system.
I wish Sega would have kept all these games for themselves, but you can't change the past.

Sega had games on the TG-16 and NES (via those Tengen ports) as well. Just sayin'bryan_65 wrote:I think it is just way to late. Think of all the games that already got released on other systems. I know, but not the amount of games released currently and in the past decade.AppleQueso wrote: Sega had games on the TG-16 and NES (via those Tengen ports) as well. Just sayin'
Edit: A quick google and wiki search list 4 NES titles and 1 TG-16 title. I have not even begun to count the amount since the Dreamcast's demise.

People seem to think that Sega games didn't end up on non-Sega systems until the 6th gen, but in reality Sega has always had games on nearly every major system except for perhaps the Atari 7800, SNES, Game Boy, and N64!
As far as retro systems go, there are Sega games on the VIC-20, Commodore 64, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, TRS-80, Tandy Color, Apple II, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Colecovision, Intellivision, Tiger handhelds, R-Zone, NES, Game Boy Color, Game.com, ZX Spectrum, TI-99/4A, and some more I'm probably forgetting. Sega had PC ports of their games back in the 90s too.

Man, the fact that Sega has made games for other systems is beside the point guys. That list of systems there. I have only seen 5 of them in real life. A lot of that stuff is not common. The amount of PS2 and X-Box games alone probably overshadow all the old stuff and everyone can get those. We are talking about reasons to have a system sell here in a current market.
Re: Do We Really Want a Dreamcast 2?
Sure a new console from Sega or heck just anyone really there hasn't been a newcomer into the console scene since Microsoft and by that i mean a proper competitor not some niche market like Ouya or however it's spelled
If we look back when the Mega Drive or Genesis came along it forced Nintendo to make their own 16bit console. When the Playstation got released it forced the innovation of 3d games.
The original Xbox made online multiplayer a standard for consoles thereby making everyone else try to catch up.
What im pointing out is a newcomer with a revolutionary idea or an overall improvement for consoles is always needed to push innovation forward for some time now things have become stale aside from some awkward experimentation with motion controls there really haven't been any groundbreaking innovations.
Well wireless controllers are a standard now so thats something i guess.

Do you think the Sega of today is a company that can do that though?arion wrote: What im pointing out is a newcomer with a revolutionary idea or an overall improvement for consoles is always needed to push innovation forward for some time now things have become stale aside from some awkward experimentation with motion controls there really haven't been any groundbreaking innovations.

Weren't Sega really the ones who first pushed for emphasis on online play?
