To their credit, a lot of those systems are pretty bad, but the order is really off. I mean the Virtual Boy doesn't have any great games, but I wouldn't say it has a lot of bad ones either, though most of my exp comes through emulation so I don't have the experience of giving my eyes cancer.
I'm surprised and a little rustled that the Odyssey is on that list though. I don't think that's very fair to the console at all.

Re: Yahoo's Top 10 Best/Worst Game Consoles
Odyssey deserves a free pass for being the first game console, and I'm finding it hard to believe that the Pippin is a better system than the SCD, 32X, N-Gage, or 3DO. Looks to me like the video creator just googled a couple of "worst game consoles ever" lists and threw the results together in random order.Aramonde wrote:Here is the worst list for people who don't want to watch the video

Poor Virtual Boy. A lot of its games were actually really, really good if you look at them in the context of early 90's technology. It was just the utterly bizarre engineering choices Nintendo made that put that thing into the ground so quickly.
I really hope that someday some documentation from the development process for that machine leaks out into the public. I'd love to read some of the internal memos or results from whatever focus groups they did that led to Big N thinking it was a good product.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I would think the words Virtual & 3D, were the envelope Nintendo was trying to innovate at the time. The technology just wasn't ready and the concept that became Virtual Boy was probably the closet thing they could of done to emulate a 3D Virtual Reality world/Experience.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
Re: Yahoo's Top 10 Best/Worst Game Consoles
I share that opinion and it's a logical line of thinking...all the way up to the point that they came up with a working prototype. Nintendo has admitted that every year they come up with dozens of potential products that the public never becomes aware of and shelves them after doing market research.
At some point, their system broke down with the Virtual Boy. I strongly suspect someone's ego was on the line and they forced the product through despite all negative signs, same as whoever thought it was a good idea to bring the Gameboy Micro to market on the eve of the Nintendo DS release.

Bigger problem is that they listed somewhat decent systems while leaving out much worse systems.Violent By Design wrote:To their credit, a lot of those systems are pretty bad, but the order is really off.

The Odyssey, 3DO, Jaguar, 32X, Sega CD, and Virtual Boy are not bad systems.
