The collecting for it took a big break while I was more into PC gaming, but once I started on console stuff again I picked right back up. Like most I have pricey wants that I may never get since I'm usually a cheap bastard when it comes to collecting, but I've been lucky and managed to snag a few pricey gems without resorting to a month of ramen. I did pick up Space Megaforce, Secret of Mana, and Soul Blazer for about $45 each used complete back in the day and thought that was crazy, but of course today that's a bargain on all of them and I've played SM and SB so much I've gotten my money's worth many times over in enjoyment.

Soul Blazer is one of my favorite games ever - still underrated today, even though the price has gone up.

I haven't started Terranigma yet, but I like SB a little better than Gaia. It is just more direct and you constantly feel like you're making progress as bits of town come back while you play. Sure it is simpler, but that just makes it easier to jump in and have some fun even if you only have a short time to play.

I've just recently been getting into Super Nintendo collecting, fortunately the system and many of the mainstays like Super metroid, TMNT IV, FF 3, Super Mario World + Allstars I aquired in the early 2000's when I traded a kid at school my orginal model GBA when I upgraded to the GBA SP. Of course at the time I had no idea what an awesome trade this would end up being. I now have all the RPG's I want for it including Earthbound which I bought the cart off ebay a couple summers ago for $90 when like a month or two later it doubled in price. Lately I have found that alot of the Super Famicom games are a steal in price compared to the rare SNES versions. For example I got a Hagene cart for $20 on the SFC where the SNES cart is $200+ Megaman X3 was $13 and the SNES version is $150, Megaman 7 SFC was only $10 where the SNES version was over $100 same with Dracula X. And most those games are nearly the same exact rom and play just fine on an SNES with the tabs cut. Infact Dracula XX (which is our Dracula X, Castlevania IV is Japans Dracula X, yeah super confusing and I had to be extra clear with my friend in japan with what I wanted) is the superior version as the US version was censored and didn't have red blood much like Metal slug.
Also I have really been getting alot of repro carts made since Gamereproductions.com is having a sale of 5 carts for $200 which isn't bad as thats $40 per cart where most places charge $60+. So far I've ordered
Super Mario Return to Dinosaur Island (pretty much the best hack of SMW out there)
Final Fantasy V
Gunmans Proof (think Legend of Zelda meets Earthbound set in the wild west, highly recommend that one)
Secret of Mana 2 (yeah just get it)
Terranigma
Front Mission
King of Demons (think Castlevania, megaman and demons crest rolled into one awesome game)
Magical Pop'n (super cute platformer)
DoReMi Fantasy (anthother cute platformer)
Fire Emblem Genealogy of The Holy War
Treasure of the Rudras

I've been shelving them all in Universal Game Cases with vertical custom snes covers from the coverproject.net it looks super slick I'll post pics tonight :D

Luke wrote:Yeah, that copy is from launch, and I still have saved cities from when I was in middle school (possible high school).

I've always loved that game. I use to rent it a lot, and I once borrowed my cousin's copy for a long time. Eventually the local ma and pa video rental shop started selling older games, and that's when I got my first copy. I played the hell out of it. The battery died, and since this was before I was the Mr. Fix that I am today, I simply got rid of it and acquired a nicer copy off eBay for dirt cheap. It was a CIB copy too. Eventually I ended up with a second copy, so I had one old and one new. For whatever reason, I decided to do away with the newer copy (that uses the newer MAD-1 decoder) and then realized it was a bad choice. Really, I can easily get a newer copy with MAD-1 from eBay for like $5, I guess I've just been too lazy.

Luke wrote:SimCity on the snes has to be one of the most relaxing games ever made. I know codes for extra money exist, but I love the pace of the game (at high speed of course). The colors are bright, the music is amazing, the sound effects are incredible (love the sound of a train starting up), and building a city is fun balls.

Come to think of it, SimCity on the snes should be prescribed to people with depression.

Yeah, Nintendo knows how to make a good game. I bust it out every now and again, but I can't play the original Sim City on the PC. It's just so boring compared to the SNES version. The music, the nice colors, Dr. Wright, etc. My favorite thing when I was younger was the gifts. Particularly the Casino and Amusement Park.

C28A-AD61

That's the Game Genie code that makes everything free. I use to use it all the time when I was younger, and that's the one Game Genie code I have memorized and will probably never forget.

These days, I don't use Game Genie any more, but I still use the in game money cheat. The one that gives you 999,999 dollars. If I wanted to be honest and not cheat, it's really easy to get a 30-50k population that's making you bank every year and just leave the game on for hours (or over night) and get several hundred thousand dollars. It's not cheating, but the money cheat is just faster. I don't find the economy side of Sim City to be any fun, so I just use the cheat and ignore money.

The one thing that sucks though is the loading bug. I talked about it here. I'm hoping that some ROM hacker will come along one day and make a patch that fixes the problem.

I used to have a strong interest in those repro carts...... but my interest diminished once my Japanese got better and I realized I could just import authentic SF carts instead.

There are still two I have my eye on tho - BS Zelda and Radical Dreamers. From what I know there's no way to play those games without using an emulator or repro carts.

That said, I think I'd have a bit of a tough time dropping $60 for a game that isn't a true "collectible" retail SNES game.

You know, I've noticed it in two lists in this thread. I know I've noticed it in people's game room pics and other such lists. I know in this thread's poll it was voted behind DKC1 and 2, and even behind DKC Returns. But, why does it seem like so many people own Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 but not 3? Was three the best of the SNES trilogy? No. Was it the most different from the other two? Yes. Is it just as fun to play as the other two? Definitely! Is it worth owning and playing through after the first two? Absolutely!

Not to mention for $200 you can get an Sd2snes and play those 5 games plus almost every other SNES game. Other SNES flash carts are even less money.

I love DKC3 - I have all three complete and that's the only one I haven't played this summer... maybe someone should start a Winter Game Challenge?

I own 1 & 3 but not 2 (on SNES at least)

Personally I think 3 is the best. I wouldnt be surprised to learn its a little more uncommon though, with how late in the SNES lifespan it was released.
