Yeah, I've never even seen that image when I searched for the film.
Some of the eBay feedback claims bootlegs. I'm going to go ahead and agree with them
Hmm, I didn't think to check the feedback since it was so high. Looks like that while they knew they were boots, they were still satisfied.
but I would ask the TohoKingdom forums to be sure.
I might just do that.

Weird. Piracy isn't something that comes to my mind about when I think of the UK.

Thanks guys. I figured it was too good to be true.

Watched "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" for the first time since I was a kid today. The last time I saw this was with my grandfather in some sort of VHS box set. Much better than I remember and well worth the watch.

That's on my watch list as well. I first heard about that film in the commentary track for the Classic Media release of the original Gojira where it was mentioned a few times as the inspiration for the film. Might have to rent the film from Amazon.

So we'll be watching "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" from the heisei era. So far, Kit has enjoyed all the movies. What I worry about, is that the general fanbase seems to hate the heisei films, especially the ones after King Ghidorah. I grew up with these movies and loved every single one, even Spacegodzilla. Apparently that's taboo to say on the Toho forums, and you must be a troll if you admit to liking that movie. Kinda hurts to think people think so poorly of those movies and scares me that I made a bad choice by introducing Kit to the heisei era first.

What do you think of the heisei era?

What is your favorite era of Godzilla/Gamera movies?

What is your most/least favorite Godzilla movie from each era?

For me, as stated above, heisei is my favorite. Even though some of the best movies come from showa, I like the continuity and story of heisei. I don't seem to mind the human element as most people, and prefer the more serious, animal like Godzilla.

For my favorite from each era:
Showa: It's a tie between Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Godzilla vs. Gigan (another movie that gets a lot of flak)
Heisei: Godzilla vs. Biollante by far.
Millennium: Godzilla 2000 (another unpopular choice :/)

This thread inspired me to finally get The Terror of Mechagodzilla on DVD. I have a distinct memory of being a kid and this movie having a strong impression on me, but now I'm pretty sure that it was just the opening sequence of footage from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla that stood out so strongly. It's been a while since I've seen the other movies in the series, but I was surprised how light on monster battles this one was! But I could appreciate the ridiculous drama with aliens and a mad scientist that filled most of the movies at least.

As for the Heisei era movies, I've only seen two: Godzilla 1985 (which was technically the Showa era but I guess it counts for Godzilla purposes?) which I saw on TV and Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, which I had on VHS. I remember Godzilla 1985 blowing me away with how serious/modern it seemed compared to the other Godzilla movies. I'd love that movie to get a fancy Blu-Ray release with both the English version and Japanese version. I normally just watch the Japanese versions now that I'm an adult, but I want to measure my memories against reality with this one!
Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla is a cool concept with a cool monster in a not very good movie. I like the concept of one of Godzilla's cells being brought to space by Mothra where it transforms into an adult clone of Godzilla but with giant crystals in its body or something. SO RIDICULOUS! But I remember the movie dragging on way too much.

I'm even less knowledgeable about the Millennium movies. I saw Godzilla 2000 in theaters and loved it. I never bought the DVD because I want the ability to watch both the American and Japanese versions... maybe I should let go of this dream now that over a decade has passed. The later movies look cool, but I've just never watched them!

Also: I didn't realize people trashed on Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla or Godzilla 2000 so much! IMO they beat the pants off of Godzilla Raids Again, All Monsters Attack (aka Godzilla's Revenge), or Godzilla vs. Hedorah.

I watch some of the Godzilla movies dubbed just because I enjoy how cheesy it can be. For example, Godzilla vs Gigan would probably bore me to death if it wasn't for the silly English dialogue. I can see why some people say the only redeeming factor for that movie is simply the line-up. Godzilla, Anguirus, Gigan and King Ghidorah. All my favorite kaiju in one movie.

I heard there were some licensing issues with certain Godzilla movies. Godzilla 1985 has been stuck in some sort of legal thing for years, but that's finally about to expire. Maybe we'll see more multi-language discs released in the near future.

Some people love the end of the Showa era and some people hate it. I have mixed feelings, as Godzilla's Revenge and Son of Godzilla were just terrible to me. The suits were some of the ugliest out of the entire franchise.

Just thought I'd bump this thread and say that James Rolfe is covering the Showa Gamera films in his Monster Madness Special.

I've gotten back into Monster Movies recently after a long break. I've seen all of the Showa Gamera films with the exception of Gamera: Super Monster. I'm not really sure if I should make a real effort to see that one before moving on to the Heisei films. I have the first seven films on a bargain bin DVD (albeit at shit quality) and the Heisei trilogy on a Blu-Ray collection, but I don't have Gamera: Super Monster. Normally I would consider this non-kosher, but Super Monster is mostly stock footage. On the other hand it does have Gamera fighting a Star Destroyer unique spaceship.

I've also seen a few more Godzilla movies: Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Son of Godzilla, and Destroy All Monsters all of which I've enjoyed.

Really? I quite like it. The scenes with Godzilla and Minilla together were cute and were even funny at times. The giant praying mantises were cool, but not as cool as the bugs in Rodan, though. ;) The action for the most part was pretty cool, especially when Kumonga went after the humans.
The suits were some of the ugliest out of the entire franchise.
I have to agree with ya on this one. With the exception of Kumonga the suits were rather subpar.

Thought I'd revive this thread since the new Godzilla movie came out. I'll post my thoughts when I'm... *sighs and points at edited first post*

No surprise, but it's awesome that a sequel has already been confirmed.

+1 for an American Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah movie. Maybe a bit of Rodan as well? It's unfortunate that we probably won't be seeing Anguirus any time soon. He's my favorite :?
