Also, I updated the OP to list all of the games where someone supplied a valid reason why a game is rightly considered among the worst of this generation. Hopefully, we will have a pretty full list by the time this discussion winds down.

So far, no one has mentioned any 3DS, PSP, Vita, or WiiU games...

I don't see what was 'insultingly bad' about FFXIII. It looked great and had a fun battle system. If you're just referring to it being linear, that's certainly miles away from 'worst game of this generation.'

The fact that a game with such nonsensical and poorly written plot, bad characters and extreme linearity is given a free pass because it looks pretty and has the name "Final Fantasy" in it is insulting to the JRPG genre.
It's style over substance, a reason why both mainstream WRPGs and JRPGs are becoming increasingly bad. It's like saying that a shallow and materialistic woman who's a complete bitch to everyone around her is "just fine the way she is" because she's beautiful and popular. It sends a wrong message. The inside doesn't matter as long as you look great.

I think that's everyone's issues in this thread. FFXIII might be a bad FF game to you, but it's not a bad game. Forever is a bad Duke Nukem, but not really a bad game. Etc.

That's why I said "If we're looking at functional and polished games" before mentioning FF XIII

Since when has Bomberman been a Nintendo franchise? It was developed by Hudson soft (=PC Engine), the first game came out on MSX and the best known Bomberman game is on the Saturn.

1) Comparing video games to women is silly (am I shallow for liking pretty paintings too by the way?)

2) About the stuff I quote, the same could be said about FF7 compared to FF6, which had a very open 3rd act, and told its story through characters and music, instead of blockbuster FMVs and minigame scenes.

FF XIII is not a shitty game. I ENJOYED it. I can't say the same about FF X. FF XIII MUST have done something right. The problem is that when I buy a box that says Final Fantasy, I expect a specific type of experience. FF XIII did not provide that. That did not make it bad, it just made it different.

I can understand being disappointed cause you wanted something else, but this is not like Sonic 06 where you basically got an alpha build.

No way is FFXIII one of the worst games of the generation. It was more of a love it or hate it kind of game, but it wasn't atrocious.

I liked FFXIII way more than I liked FFX. It had fun combat and awesome music. And, yes, I liked the graphics. Don't tell me that great art design counts for nothing

FFXIII didn't have blitzball and not everyone in that game was annoying.

Not all games like that are insulting to the genre. Yggdra Union comes to mind.

In the interest of keeping the thread on-topic, however, please refrain from trolling on popular franchises such as Call of Duty, Halo, Mario, Zelda, etc. It is very unlikely that these games are truly the worst of this generation, and if you must speak ill of them, please do so in another thread so that we can discuss the truly abysmal games here.

Accordingly, let's cut off the FFXIII debate and continue discussing truly terrible games.
