How would you destroy a beloved game series?

Plenty of ways to do that:

Tell the Japanese development team to make it, "more Western"

Create a development team consisting of over 600 people.

Decide that the protagonist of the series is not "dark" enough.

Decide to make the series a "franchise"

Decide to listen to EVERYTHING the fans want, cause we know fans are always right about everything

Replace the main character, cause people love when developers do that(Who the fuck is this Raiden?)

Put out yearly sequels. No better way to keep your series feeling fresh and original than a thousand sequels

Piss off the head of the development team midway through the game's creation. That worked wonders for Ninja Gaiden 2. Really showed in the final product

Here's a few things that I personally could do to people's favorite series, just to piss them off

I'm make Link talk

I'd release a Halo game with no multi-player, with a troll face right on the game's packaging

I'd release a Final Fantasy game where the main characters are above 30 years old, have normal hair, realistic looking weapons, and zero angst.

I'd release a Kingdom Hearts game with no FF characters whatsoever, and just to really piss off fans, I'd have it have a story that actually makes sense. Maybe kill off a few Disney characters too, just for fun. Who doesn't want to see Mickey Mouse decapitated?

Both of the above games would lack a cheesy, sappy, pop song in its soundtrack

I'd make every sports franchise only able to release a new game every four years

I'd make the next Batman game have Robin as the main character

I'd make a Sonic game where him and Mario and all of Mario's pals team up to take down Robotnick. Of course, most of the stages would revolve around Mario's friends, and Sonic's friends with just a handful of stages devoted to playing as Sonic. The Sonic stages would of course have wonky jumping physics and weird camera angles

A Tomb Raider game where Lara starts off with an assault Rifle. It would be called Tomb Raider: Voyage into the Uncharted. It would have lots of cut scenes, bullet time, and no actual tombs. There would be radio chatter throughout the game between her and some guy named Drake as she guns down hordes of red shirts

I'd announce Half Life 2 Episode 3...for 2019

To ruin it? I always thought honesty was the best policy?

Change the official Tetris rules so that the player completely controls the drop rate of the piece.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

If I could travel back in time, I would show my younger self that video and clutch at his shirt crying and pleading "Please save the future! Don't let this happen! Don't let it happen!"
Personally, I think that's the best thing (the characters dancing, not the game) to happen in the franchise's history. And I'm a big Star Wars fan.

Another Ocarina of Time port, except when Link hibernates for seven years, you hibernate for seven years. Maybe a Pac-Man game about the consequences of his crippling pellet addiction.
How about a fighting game where the characters dress and fight realistically, or an RTS that's actually in real time.
Insert clever quote here.
