Agreed. I don't think you'll see prices drop too much on Earthbound simply because the recent price increase on SNES stuff doesn't seem to be on any particular game. If it will go up, down or maintain is purely speculation. But I think the whole SNES market will have to deflate on top of this release driving it down to see this game get back down to ~$100 prices.
Yeah, I remember trying to find another Chrono Trigger cart back in 01/02. Couldn't find one under $150. Sucks that Katrina destroyed my boxed Earthbound. I really hope the prices drop so I can pick it up again, but I don't have my hopes up.
Great to see all these digital releases of games the community has been asking for. Now we just need a translated Mother 3 like Opa Opa said.

Yeah, but all they did was translate the menus. Officially localizing something like Mother 3 would be a much bigger undertaking.

The SNES spike is so head scratching, because there's not really anything that seems to have caused it. It's like starting in mid-2012 everything just suddenly skyrocketed for no real reason. Really really strange.

That'd be really cool, same thing with Earthbound Zero/Mother 1.
I don't think there's any prior precedent to Nintendo localizing previously unreleased games like that, but you never know.

Plus other companies have begun doing this to varying degrees of success (Konami with Dracula X, Sega with Monster World IV and the Arcade version of Wonderboy in Monster Land, etc)

Can you give any examples of a DD driving up the price of a game for a sustained period of time?
I wasn't necessarily thinking because of digital release, but more that it brings attention to the title so more people are likely to seek it out, including ones that prefer physical carts.

I've never known them to do that either but if enough people put down the cash for EB maaaybe they'll see that there's a market for the series.
Despite already having a cartridge, If I had a Wii U I'd definitely show the series some support by paying the five or six bucks they charge (which I hope most Wii U owners do).
The last thing the Mother series needs is the VC port to not reach Nintendo's sales expectations.

My kindred spirit, I earnestly feel your pain
I've considered taking out an insurance policy for my stuff, but I dunno how I'd handle ballooning prices when quoting the value of my stuff.

I mean I get the logic, but I've never, ever seen it work that way. I was just curious if you had a specific example in mind.
