Don't feel bad I'm playing on a controller as well. I had never played this game before until now actually and it is really good. I will be playing this multiple times through this month I can tell.does anyone know if the online servers are up for the ps 2?

I don't hate keyboard and mouse for FPS but I definitely prefer controller-based over it. So much so, that I won't buy an FPS on PC that doesn't support controller.

Is it opposite day or something?
Re: Together Retro: Half-Life
Not being much of a computer FPS player growing up, the keyboard mouse thing is a little foreign to me and is taking some adjusting. I'm very conditioned by controllers. Right now I'm having the damndest time with ladders. Keep falling off. I feel like the controller sensitivity could be scaled back a touch.
Digging the hell out of this game. I wanted to do source, but I'm on a mac and Steam only supports Source for PC. Still, the graphics aren't too bad for '98. Not distracted at all. I'm only about 3 hours in, plugging my way through the office complex. Think I'm doing pretty good at the combat aspect, though I'm getting dominated by those little facehugger fuckers.

At least prunkhaft is trying keyboard and mouse without knocking it. You have my approval, good sir, unlike those other filthy console peasants. And ladders are a pain in the butt anyway, but you can change your sensitivity in the game's controls.
A tip for headcrabs: if you are good enough, you can hit them with the crowbar in mid-air. But seeing as that's not likely the case, I suggest sidestepping and then rushing up and beating them into piles of goo with the crowbar the instant they leap past you. It helps conserve pistol bullets. If you can't sidestep or do something to get out of the way, just use the pistol. Don't waste any further ammunition on them.
One of my favorite things to do in Half-Life 2 was to grab cement blocks and hurl them at the headcrabs as they flew at me. What happens when a hard object meets a fleshy ball while they are flying at high speeds in opposite directions? SPLAT. That's what happens.

Who cares what anyone plays videogames with. Play it with a muscle-controlled pressure-sensitive dildo for all I care. As long as you're having fun playing that's all that counts...

It's not the worst thing in the world to get used to. I felt that playing the game using the keyboard is how it was originally meant to be played. So in the spirit of retro gaming...Ack wrote:At least prunkhaft is trying keyboard and mouse without knocking it. You have my approval, good sir, unlike those other filthy console peasants. I have mixed results with timing my crowbar attack on them. I have noticed that while the map offers precious few health consoles, ammo is quite abundant. I have the difficulty on medium, btw. So while a headcrab attack that does 20 dam to myself is devastating from a health standpoint, plugging the offender with a few bullets is easily afforded.Ack wrote:A tip for headcrabs: if you are good enough, you can hit them with the crowbar in mid-air. It's not that I'm constantly under siege by them or anything. They just annoy the hell out of me. You think you clear a room of them, then...
