I'm halfway there with Ack, maybe it'd be for the best. But on the other hand, yeah, I thought Deus Ex HR was a step in the right direction for an excellent modern single player oriented FPS, so I have a fair bit of faith in this team. Creative conflicts scare me though. HR was already streamlined in a few ways as it was, and Thief needs to have the minimal amount of that as possible. I don't want superpowers, I don't want QTE's, I don't want an emphasis on combat whatsoever... etc yeah I could go on forever. Still very excited about this one but it'll be very tricky to impress me.

Seems e3 came with it's fair share of Thief news and gameplay footage.

e3 Thief Gameplay Stage Demo

Balancing the Art of Stealth in Thief

What are people's thoughts in light of these new developments? Being a fan of the originals, as well as the more recent Deadly Shadows, I have mixed feelings. For one, I don't care for the strange shadowy blur around the edges of the screen when Garrett's hidden. It's a bit jarring, and obscures too much of his FOV. And speaking of shadows, I feel like I didn't actually see that many. I'm used to moving from shadow to shadow; that's how I want to play. I wasn't a fan of the inevitable console-friendly UI, like the radial weapon wheel, and the apparent XP/leveling system also has me a bit concerned. And lastly, where are the factions? I want to see the Hammerites and Pagans damnit.

All of those gripes aside, I think they nailed the atmosphere, and overall the game looks amazing. It feels like a Thief game. I'm also comforted by the knowledge that a lot of the HUD and the gameplay elements I might not want can be disabled in the menus, and that the designers seem to at least be considering the difference in play styles between the hardcore and casual gamer. Overall, I'd have to say I'm pleasantly surprised and anxious to see more, but still a bit skeptical of the game we'll end up getting.

To be fair I can see little wrong with a radial menu, as long as you can use good ol' shortcut keys on PC I can't see any issue with it. It's a solid design choice and it just makes sense as far as UI design goes. There are much much worse choices they could have made in terms of UI.

Yeah, I'll be fine with it as long as I can just use my mouse wheel to accomplish equipment switching.

The takedowns are awful. I was really hoping this would have absolutely no third person segments at all, it really pulls you out of the character. :?

Just read a very encouraging article based off of a Q&A of fans who got to play extended demos at E3.
Thief Community Q&A Wrapup

A lot of what they said was reassuring, as I had some previous worries based on what I saw in the gameplay demo. There's also a half hour recorded interview with the level designer that I have yet to listen to if anyone's interested in learning more.

Also, they addressed this concern that I shared as well.

Not to mention the fact that they tend to act as the I Win-button in most games that have such moves. Takes the tension and intensity away from the gameplay.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Yea just reading this comment reminds me of how awful those parts of The Chronicles of Riddick were. Climbing a ladder, shimmy across a pipe blah just stick to first a first person view and be done with it.

Sweet, the big boss leaves due to more inter-office/company politics. Just what Thief needs.
