So why not go back and play games from the period you enjoyed? That's what I do. It's rare that I enjoy a modern mainstream game and even more rare that I enjoy an "indie" game. I just stick with games I missed the first time around from the 16/32 bit days.

Every single game that's going to come out next-gen could be absolutely horrid and I'd still have more to play than I ever needed. Previous generations have already given us an enormous amount of great games to run through.

Frankly, if you have to resort to namecalling over people's tastes in games, you probably ought to avoid it. No reason to get that upset, as it doesn't affect anyone anyway.
Funny how so many people get angry when someone says what they like is shit, and yet shrug their shoulders when bank bigwigs threaten to collapse our world economy, when innocent people are dying by impersonal drone attacks, when politicians are ignoring sound economic advice leading to starved economic policies, when radical Islamists burn down libraries with ancient manuscripts and bomb neighbors, when Iran is inching closer to acquiring a nuclear weapon, when China is becoming more imperialistic with regards to Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam, and when a fellow forum member is about to go off to fight in one of the nastier wars of our time. I just can't get angry about someone not liking recent games.
C'mon now. I could follow both sides of this tired argument until this came out of left field. Was all that really necessary? For most of the people on this board, games are a passion. Most people, I believe, have come to terms that they can't function everyday if they worry about all the ills of the world constantly. Would make for a miserable time...

If you want your stuff back, you have to track down your previous character (who's now a zombie) and take it from them. I can honestly say I've never seen a game like that before.
There have been zombie mods before DayZ that had the same concept IIRC and rogue-like elements have been implemented in other games before (Diablo, early MMORPGs and so on).
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games) Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
A usenet discussion from 1990 about how modern games suck compared to older ones.
I remember reading this before. We've discussed here before somewhere the fact that a lot of people blamed the rise of the NES for killing the classic arcade-style game. That is certainly true, and I know that I at least much prefer to play Galaga or Centipede at the arcade than Super Mario Bros or even Contra at the arcade. 3D brought a whole new era of gaming, too.
