Ignoring the other stuff going on in the thread, I'll give you my favorites with some short notes.TheRev wrote:I'm guessing I'm already on the right track My current games are Star Fox 64, Bomberman 64, Star Soldier 64, Mario Kart 64 (JP) Sin and Punishment, F-Zero X, and Mischief makers.
Cruisin' USA - The first of three Cruisin' games on the N64, and easily my favorite. Maybe the second two had some better gameplay elements, but the first is my favorite for nostalgic reasons. It had a lot of fun music in it, and the arcade gameplay never gets old. The other two are worth checking out too though, they'll all cheap carts I think.
Diddy Kong Racing - Like I said, a lot think it's better than Mario Kart 64. I think I agree. The Adventure Mode adds a lot to the game for some reason. And it seems like it never ends. Every time you beat the game you unlock a new mode. There's unlockable characters too. I guess this is expected when Rare makes a Mario clone.
Donkey Kong 64 - The N64 has a solid list of 3D platformers. This game runs on a modified Banjo engine. It's modified enough that it requires you to have the Expansion Pak - you can't play the game without one. See more below about the Expansion Pak.
GoldenEye - Some people will tell you Perfect Dark is better because it's a better version of GoldenEye... don't listen to them! Perfect Dark might have improved the multi player modes greatly, but I still say GoldenEye is better. At least no one can argue that GoldenEye's single player is far better than Perfect Dark. Beating all the difficulty levels and unlocking all the cheats will keep you playing. And the multi player is still fun, even if it's not as good as Perfect Dark.
Zelda Occarina of Time and Majora's Mask - OoT is said to be one of the greatest games of all time. I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but if you like Zelda games, then you probably should check this one out. MM is another story. Some love it, some hate it. I thought it was a great follow up to OoT. So I'll say this, if you play OoT and liked it then try out MM. Just note that MM requires the Expansion Pak in order to be played.
Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer - Not the greatest game of all time, but definitely a fun racing game. If you like racing games, and Star Wars, then check it out!
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - This is one of the few third person shooters that I'll actually play. The atmosphere in this game is amazing, mostly due to all the cool music straight out of The Empire Strikes back.
Super Mario 64 - The original N64 3D platformer, and the orignal Mario 3D platformer. This game stands the test of time. The sales of the DS version prove it, it's still fun today. It's still fun when we have Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 to play. If you don't own it yet, since you can play imiports, you might consider getting the import of this one. In Japan only, it was rereleased with Rumble Pak support. I believe this version also touched up a couple things. IIRC, the text is in Japanese, but it's not like the story is that involving. Princess invites Mario to the castle because she baked a cake for him. Bowser stole the princess and uses power from the stars to do something evil. Mario must get the stars back. Mario beats Bowser and rescues the princess. They eat cake. The end. edit: On second thought, on a rare occasion there is some text in the game that gives you hints or straight up tells you what you have to do in order to get a star. You might just wanna stick with the English version if you haven't played it before. Or just grab a players guide.
Top Gear Rally - I've only played the first one, despite owning the second one for years now I haven't had the time to try it out yet. The first one is a solid game. Again, if you like racing games, check it out. Just not that it is RALLY racing and not kart racing or arcade racing. The second one might be better, I don't know. And there was also a Top Gear bike racing game that I've yet to try. Might be good too. They're all cheap carts.
Turok - The first one is my favorite. The second one improved a lot of things, and is probably the better game, but the first one has the nostalgic thing for me. The rest of them you should skip.
Mortal Kombat 4 and Trilogy - NO LOADING TIMES!
Banjo Kazooie / Tooie - Haven't played them yet but every one says they're solid 3D platformers for the console. Donkey Kong 64 uses the same engine and I liked that one, so the Banjo games can't be bad.
The Expansion Pak - I'll just direct you to a recent post of mine so I don't have to type it all out again...

There's also talk of OoT and MM in that thread, if you're interested in those games.
