^No. In fact, with the recent court decision in Illinois, it's actually become worse.

So I guess it was adam and not ryan lanza who did the awful act. Ryan is in custody now. Two classes were involved priciple was shot and adam went on a shooting spree. kindergarteen. 5 years old? I hope adam burns in hell.
I grabbed my kids and cried when I picked them from school and talked to some of the teachers about what has been going on.
I am going to pray for these kids tonight and hope the lord can give strength to the parents of the lost ones and the 6 adults also that lost their life.
It hurts me writing and posting about this. I was on racketboy and I was just building emotion inside and I needed to let my emotions go so I thought I would write this.
I'm angry and sad. For anyone who knows any member of anyone who lost life today I am so sorry.
We always write about video games or any form of enetertainment or buy, sell, or trade or talk about what level or hint we need to beat a game. Today made me remember how grateful and fragile life is and how I'm blessed with a healthy family and friends and wish all the hate in this world would just go away.
Tonight if everyone here can just give their kids a hug a little tighter and a kiss and tell them how much they mean to them... I know it won't bring the kids back from conn but for me it made me feel a little better.
I'm torn up on this. I couldn't go on if my kids was killed. Im distugusted.

so very sad indeed. It hits home for me too since i too have a 7 year old daughter in 1st grade.

I just read that the shooters mother was a teacher there, whom he killed and possibly a relative of his at his home since there was body found there too.
No words for what this monster did. The worst part is he cannot account for what he did since he's dead as well, probably suicide. What a coward.

No, there hasn't been.

Tangentially related: I hate the politics surrounding shootings.

Liberals start preaching gun control. Conservatives claim arming more citizens would lessen the death toll. The media blames video games.

Every single time we have a tragedy like this, people/pundits just use it to grandstand. And it's getting old.

There's not really any "appropriate" time to bring up those kinds of issues.

But it's like they are exploiting the deaths to get media time for their views. That seems extra-inappropriate to me.

Just damn. It makes me sick. I wish I knew there was something we could do to prevent such atrocities.

I think that's an awfully cyncial way of looking at it.

Either way I don't want to derail the thead about that. So yeah.

I saw this on the news today at work. I had to leave the staff room, because I HATE even seeing this stuff on the news or hearing it on radio at all. Even seeing this thread makes me kind of sick. I could never imagine what it would feel like to have any of the kids I've taught before, or will in the future (yes, I am also a licensed teacher), hurt in any way in something like this; let alone my own daughter.

The person, or even persons, who are responsible for this deserve every single ounce of wrath brought upon them, and more.
I am not up to date with my US politics in any way shape or form, has any serious discussion about tighter gun laws in the States been discussed lately?
No, there hasn't been.
Actually, there has been. Not a lot yet, but Obama was already asked about it. He mostly dodged the question with the expected "today is not the day to discuss that" response, but it was hinted upon. I'm positive it will come into play in the future. As 'inappropriate' as it my seem to even bring it up, it WILL be brought up... again and again, with this horrific event probably playing the catalyst for it.
But it's like they are exploiting the deaths to get media time for their views. That seems extra-inappropriate to me.
Of course media, neocons, gov't, whatever will exploit this to push their agenda. Is it inappropriate? Well, yes, it probably is. It will still happen, though.
