All right -- so DDP

My Thoughts

Being an early Cave title, you can tell that they had to shake off the Toaplan. You see it in the title screen, the power ups, the ships, the side pods, heck even Stage 2 could be in Truxton II. Was I playing that? Gekirindan? Batsugun?

Thank goodness we did Mars Matrix last month, because it certainly helps to weave around bullets.

So here it is, my First Strike Score (AKA nowhere to go but up!)

ExedExes - 4,719,210 - Area 3 - 149 - Type B (Laser) - MAME

If I can no miss Stage 2, I can make this better. Not 10 million better, mind you, but better.

Do-Do-Do-Do-Do-Do-Do-Do-DON pachi!!

This is exciting news. I'll certainly be taking part, using the PS1 version.

I do have one inquiry: The PS1 version has a button that slows down the game when pressed. I'm assuming we're not allowed to use that, correct?

got together with some family today -- my sister and her boyfriend flew in from DC to visit. So he was checking out my video games. He used to play a lot when he was younger (he's a few years younger than me). I loaded up DDP for him and he got to the first boss without losing a life. I was like "WTF dood?!!?" ...just a total natural. He owns no consoles now. I urged him to pick up a Dreamcast or 360 soon. All through our lunch he kept asking me about shmups. Was awesome.

Spent the rest of the afternoon with this game, reset a lot of times, tried a lot, and then I somehow latched onto something.

ExedExes - 9,338,560 - Area 4 - 148 - Type C (Shot) - MAME
(The initials were screwed up because I could not believe how much better I did on a bullet hell shmup )

No miss'd 1 & 2, 3's boss is a bit nasty, but Area 4 gives you a kind of break until about halfway in, picked up 2 extends on points and a 1-up object and just appreciated the extra bombs you get as you lose more lives.

my top score right now has the initials "A " which makes me so mad. I was so excited to post my score that I logged in here forgetting to input my initials. :?

Built a MAME cabinet for our break room at work. Had funding from the company and everything, it's a pretty nice setup to get busy with during lunch or breaks. Hard to keep people working though :)

Lots of shmups on it and this one is easily one of the best - I've had a thing for Fever SOS, Esp.Galuda & ProGear lately.. but this is a nice break and gives me goals to go after. No one at work beats my highscores but none of them are huge gamers either so competition is with myself.

I haven't had much experience with Cave. Practically shameful for a (so-called) shmup fan I suppose... So this should be fun!

One thing though, what's so different between "shot" / "laser" type?
After many futile tries with shot, I did quite better with laser's first try...but that's probably just because I actually remembered to use the bombs... :?

The sideways scrolling is kinda throwing me off too. Should get used to it sometime. I hope.

I'd love clarification on this as well.

Really. Ignorance (then) and my being a cheapskate (now) are the main excuses I'd say...
Perhaps if some of their earlier titles made it outside Japan, or they had something on the Dreamcast...

But oh well. I'm certainly going to have fun with DDP now!

word. I hear you. It is weird that no Cave titles made it to DC isn't it? I'd say I only got seriously into Cave this year myself. But wow. What a dev to discover!
