I feel like Square Enix is doing quite well. Maybe not on the game's they develop, but, they've published a lot of cool games lately. Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Just Cause 2 come to mind.

I think they're really found their place this gen. They're so much better than they were last gen, when they were trying to pretend that they were still Squaresoft.

Well, that's the thing... they've become a good publisher, but hardly a good developer.

The thought did dawn on me lately, if Square Soft were around during the PS2 era... hot damn, hot diggity damn. FFX was the last good one from Soft.

It's certainly the last one anything close to a majority can agree was a good game. Later ones have a much higher percentage of haters.

Is everyone forgetting the Enix half of Square Enix continuing to do good on the Dragon Quest front?

Or the portable front?

Crisis Core (lousy in terms of it being a prequel, because it spoils one of the twists of FF7, but oh well) and Dissidia were pretty solid, and the port of Final Fantasy IV for the PSP looks pretty good. I've been meaning to pick that up to play the After Years, but my PSP is broken so :(

Also the Dragon Quest remakes were outstanding, along with games like The World Ends With You on the DS.

But the same could be said pretty much of ALL JRPGs this generation. The good ones were on the PSP and DS.
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

That's because two things are behind the times: portable systems (by necessity) and Japanese developers. They're a perfect match.
