I've probably attempted to beat R-Type close to seventy times, maybe more. It took me close to a decade of off an on playing of Blaster Master to beat it. Looking back after beating Jackal with one man, I couldn't believe I actually played some of the same games over, and over, and over, every year.

I doubt I've watched my favorite movie over 100 times, but video games are a different story.

Let's see:

Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic and Knuckles
Rocket Knight Adventures
Streets of Rage 2
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3

You could throw a couple of fighting games on there too, including the Super Smash Brothers series and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, but fighters are a bit different I think.

I'm certain I'm over 100 on all of those.

The Sonic games in particular are way up there. Beating any of them takes an hour at the longest, and I've done it so many times at this point that its kind of ridiculous. I just never get tired of these games.

I can't think of a single game I've beaten from start to finish more than a few times.
My original post didn't quite define "Played over 100 times" so I should clarify.

My list includes games that I've turned on, and tried to beat in one sitting. I may have not beaten Ninja Gaiden 100 times, but I have tried to beat the game with every sitting. Continues, save states need not apply and do not count.

I've turned on MGS 100 times +, but never from the beginning to beat the game. I've done that maybe three times, and don't include continuing as an "extra play". It's still the same game I started. Blaster Master is on my list because I had to play that game over 100 times to beat it.

Sports games get a bit of a pass, as each match is unique.

But to sum it up, "playing" in this instance doesn't mean just pressing the power button on and off. You either attempted to or successfully completed the game. Throwing the controller in frustration and restarting however does count as a play.
So how would you classify games you play for multiplayer? Like Goldeneye I have only beaten the singleplayer maybe 40 times, but I have clocked countless hours into multiplayer.

Me, too. I know I've spent an ungodly amount of hours playing multiplayer on Goldeneye.

I'm officially calling bullshit on about 90% of what people have posted given Luke's clarified criteria.

By his criteria, no VS multiplayer game counts then. So yea, most people have not tried to beat any game 100 times not counting multiplayer. I still stand by my NES titles though. The rest it gets kinda shaky.

SimCity 2000, 3000, and C&C Generals are the only ones off my list that still stand.

Given the clarified criteria, I'd probably have about 25ish playthroughs of MGS. If you factor in the entire series, I'm probably at 100. So, I'll just let my entry be all encompassing. :-P
