Which Uncharted game do you recommend I play 34 mins of then decide that TR is better?
Uncharted 2
cool, cool. I assume the first 34 mins of Uncharted 2 will be the same as seeing the whole game and I can then I can justify saying that TR is superior. 8)

It's definitely really important that we state that Uncharted 2 or Tomb Raider 2013 is the better game. They cannot both just be considered good games that are a lot of fun to play. You can only like one of them.

My limited experience and everything I've read about the new Tomb Raider just screams "copycat" and limits my interest in picking it up again
Uncharted isn't exactly the only series to throw in stuff like that. Hell, the Tomb Raider movies did it before Uncharted did

As I've mentioned before, the game is different from Uncharted. There are similar elements - combat particularly. The actual structure of the game, however, is a lot more like Arkham Asylum. You get more gadgets, which allow entry to new areas, and you can revisit previous areas to find more stuff using new capabilities. Beat the game and you can go back and explore to find things as well. The campfires give you points to warp around/back to.
There's also an upgrade system that could have been lifted straight out of AA.

I'd also say that stealth gameplay is more viable more often than in Uncharted, though not unlike what the Last of Us has.

I'm not saying it's an original game. It's not. It combines successful elements from more modern games that, in turn, were building on successful games before them (including the older TR games). While I'm tempted to say that some elements were polished, it could also just be a result of it playing it on PC, versus the Naughty Dog games being lower fps/etc due to the PS3 (not that they don't masterfully wring every last pixel from that hardware).

But, the end result is a great looking game that controls nicely and is just fun to play as a result (particularly with the bow).

I started to read through all 4 pages of this thread, and I got lost somewhere in page 2. I was too excited to post my memories of the first Tomb Raider game, I couldn't wait to read if someone else had already posted it or not. LOL. So I apologize in advance if someone has already brought this stuff up.

Tomb Raider was the first game I tried to pirate. LOL. I rented it, and my buddy's Dad had one of the first CD burners. I asked him to try and copy the disc. Of course it didn't work. LOL. I still have that disc, in my original Tomb Raider 1 case. LOL.

I remember the "deaths" being crazier than I had seen. The bone "crunch" when Lara would land on her head. The ragdoll physics when she would crumple up. LOL. I remember thinking, man this game is mature! LOL.

I also thought that the extra moves that Lara could do, that didn't have any real impact on the game, was a neat touch. I had gotten a hold of some GamePro or something, and learned that you could do swan dives, and handstands and stuff. I realize now that some of that stuff could get you through certain traps, but you didn't HAVE to use them. So I had friends that didn't even know those moves existed. I'd bust out a swan dive, and they'd be liKe DANG!!! How did you do that? LOL. Or I'd pull myself up on a ledge by going into a handstand first, and then rolling onto my feet. I told them the game did it for me automatically, cause Lara likes me more. LOL.

Anyway, I fully agree that the graphics haven't held up. However, the game is good in so many nostalgic ways, that the graphics don't matter as much to me. If you're on the fence about it, get the Anniversary version. At least the updated graphics will keep your attention. But if you really want to go back to the early 90's, do it the right way with the original version.

Meh.
Says the person who's never played an Uncharted game. I don't doubt it has its merits, but I feel like the experience has been done better and with more originality elsewhere.
Well I've played and beaten every Uncharted and Tomb Raider game and can say that it is not a copy cat, but they definitely can be compared to each other. And while story is better in Uncharted 2, the gameplay and collection aspects of Tomb Raider are superior. In this case, I hope Uncharted 4 borrows some elements from TR, because some of the ways you get overwhelmed with guys in Uncharted 3 were just not fun IMO.

I just can't get into it. I just played more:

I wish I could have those 45 minutes back. All she does is grunt and whine, the other characters are equally as uninteresting, and the platforming/jumping is glitchy as hell.

I don't know dude. It sounds to me like you just don't want to like it now.

But whatever, sometimes things don't really click for whatever reason. Even though I think the new TR is super fun, I'm more interested in playing other Crystal Dynamics TR games than playing the 'superior' Uncharted games. Shrug. Nathan Drake doesn't really interest me I guess. I'm also more likely to play the aforementioned Batman games before Uncharted as well... cuz I have a couple of those already and haven't played them.

I liked that she wasn't a hardened killer from the beginning and how she was reach out and touch the environment as she passed by like she was affected by what she saw. Also, I didn't have any issues with platforming/jumping.

If you're not having fun I wouldn't put in more time with it, but I'm very surprised.

Dang man, really not a fan of the new one huh? I really enjoyed it, but I can see where you're coming from. I'm guessing that you aren't the only one that didn't care for it, as the sales weren't nearly as spectacular as Square was hoping.

The sales were really, really good. Square just had insane expectations. They basically thought It'd get Call of Duty numbers.
