I don't know if I'd really recommend the Mushi Mushi Pork/Pink Sweets compilation, because they're tough as balls, and probably inordinately expensive to import. However, if you want weird and stupid challenging Cave shmups, those would be the ones to get.

yeah Muchi/Pink is expensive it seems, but I'm dying to get it. I really like Ibara so the sequel is a must. And a totally weird game like MMP is a great bonus. I guess I should just remember that the price isn't so bad when you're getting two full games.

Wow, total brain spasm. No idea what happened to me when I went to write Muchi....

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Ibara and Battle Garegga, so I picked up Pink Sweets as if it were a no-brainer (actually the first 360 game I bought) but I was a bit disappointed by it, honestly. In general, it's still in the same vein as its predecessors, but the style is a little too froo froo, and it's gone a bit too heavy on the bubble-gum, candy, super-sweet moe crap that I can't stand.
Also I don't really understand how one is supposed to survive certain sections. I mean, I know you're sort of not supposed to, but I don't really understand how to keep myself from dying every 5 seconds in a couple sections. I guess I should just be playing the arrange mode anyway, though, since I believe I read somewhere that it's literally impossible to 1cc v1.01 without some of the slowdown that they removed when porting it.

Oh! So is 3.5 million a decent score for stage 1 then?

Hmm... anyone know how I get access to the Black Label and v1.01 versions? I only have 1.5 and Arrange on the options menu?

Well, I'd love to get that score in the first stage, yeah. I think the top players usually break 8 million, though.

Black Label is dlc, and my guess would be that ver1.01 was a Limited Edition bonus, though I really don't know.

That's correct. 1.01 was a pack-in code for the first print run. From what I've heard it isn't really worthwhile to try and track down an unused DLC code. Aside from the fact it'd probably be expensive and you don't know if it's valid, 1.01 isn't very fun compared to 1.5 or BL.

I shouldn't have tried to count zeros from memory, because I was off by a power of ten; I meant to say that I had trouble breaking 12 million....

I've been spending a lot of time on Mushihimesama Futari 1.5, and have been really enjoying and appreciating it. Credit fed through to the end on Original 360 mode and the beauty of the later levels made my jaw hit the flaw... but, oh the bullets!!!

Tonight for the first time I tried it on Arrange Novice mode, and 1cc-ed it!

I'm so chuffed! But kinda disappointed too, as I wish the auto-bomb thing had been disabled. It would've felt a bit more genuine then. Still, it's a 1cc and it was still tricky for me!

Is there a way to disable the auto-bomb on Novice mode? I'd like to gradually work my way up through the difficulty levels so that I can feel like I'm "achieving" real progress in the game.

I don't know about disabling it on novice, and Arrange is auto-bomb even on higher difficulties (it trashes your score), and I don't know if there's a way to turn it off there either.

The only Cave shmups I have acquired are the more accessible ones (DDP Resurrection, Deathsmiles, Akai Katana Shin)... Luckily I didn't have to pay much for them either. I intend on getting some of the region free ones some time.

By far DDP R is my favorite. Maybe because it is a vert shmup instead of a horizontal. Everything about it is just incredible. The designs, the graphics, the silky smooth controls. It made me a believer.

I can't wait to play more Dodonpachi games and vertical Cave shmups!

Welcome to the club! I recently splurged on an NTSC-J slim! Got Deathsmiles II and it's nuts, you can buy it from games on demand, check it out! Also try Blaz Blue, while it's a fighting game, if you like Japanese game design it'll simply blow your mind.

Also Guwange for $10 on XBLA, another great game. And Trouble Witches Neo, I like it, it's a pretty fun doujin Deathsmiles clone
