This all has me very curious. I think I might pick it up, new for Xbox 360. That way, I have the hat, and all that jazz. I'll let you know, we could get a Racketboy linkshell.

If not, I'll at least give the trial a shot on my laptop and see how it performs. Could be entertaining. If it doesn't hold my interest, I'll at least make the jump to XIV.

FYI I'm playing on Carbuncle! A Racketboy Link Shell could definitely be fun.

I like that I can play it on the 360, I really prefer having a controller in my hands to having to sit at a computer. Just be aware that you'll pretty much need a USB keyboard to communicate. And the installation process is LONG AND ARDUOUS; once you get a copy don't expect to be playing until the next day. And Square-Enix's online system is kind of wacky - you need a Square-Enix account and from THAT you get a PlayOnline account and then you need to activate a "content ID" for every character you want to play... but once you get it all set up, it's easy.

So I tried to boot up my old copy of Final Fantasy XI. Updated the POL service, then tried to log-in to my account. Kept saying incorrect ID/Password. Was certain this was the password, and account information. Weird. Contacted Customer Service.

Basically, my account was deleted due to inactivity. I'd have to purchase a new copy of the game in order to play. This is concerning, mainly because they at first couldn't locate my information, kicked me off of the live-chat service without resolving my issue. I reconnected and talked to the same person who helped me before, provided him my registration key. Said my account was deleted due to inactivity. I understand it was some time, but in the EULA/ToS, is it commonplace to reserve the right to cancel accounts and software due to inactivity?

I'm concerned, because if I pick up this game, and decide to quit for a while, will I return only to find out everything is gone? I'm not so sure this is for me. :-\

I think it was the policy waaaay back when you played before, but it's no longer typical. I've got people I know in-game that returned after years with no issue.

They did a big "return to Vanadiel" campaign years ago where they dug out the old backups or whatnot, and really, since then, haven't deleted inactive accounts.

What sort of progress had you made on your original account?

I hadn't made any huge progress. I was around level 30. Which pre Abyssea, was a decent time investment. My computer would most likely handle it okay. Wondering if 19.99 for Abyssea would be worth it.

Can get back to 30 in a few hours, easily, just soloing. Main hurdle would be having gil to upgrade gear, but you'd likely rock the Destrier Beret/Chocobo Shirt to 30 anyway.

If you're going to play high level, you want Abyssea, no question. It's a bit much to just infodump, but suffice to say, it's where a lot of XP takes place, and where a lot of staple gear comes from. Time/reward is so skewed there, it's practically a different game (which, hey, plotwise, it is an alternate dimension).

Actually participating in Abyssea is easily 75+, but minimum entry level is 30, whether to leech, or simply to start the items you "buy" initial time in the zones with accruing.

'course, if you buy the collection, you'll get all the content anyway.

Awesome thanks for the link, I had no idea the newest expansion garnered a 360 release as well! I'll have to pick it up. I definitely recommend at least buying it if you have an inkling to play it on 360, because the 360 versions tend to become quite rare.

Double post, just wanted people to see it who were interested. Sorry!

Just ordered the Seeker's Collection off Amazon, thanks to a birthday gift. Will be firing this one up in the upcoming week. Will have to install it, etc.

isiolia is on Asura

Anyone else from the forum on this game? Racketboy linkshell! :D

You people all need to move over to Cerberus where I play! Give me incentive to get back in the game. I am planning on getting the newest expansion though. That Chocobo Shirt summons crystals based on the day, and from what I read it recharges itself so you can use it multiple times.

When SE is giving such incentive to quit?

(well, for endgame players)

Chocobo Shirt does give crystals based on game day, and can be used every 20 hours. It's the only part of it that really does anything in the long run, but it's a lot more useful for the other stuff it does (ACC/RACC/MACC under 31, etc).

You only get the shirt/beret with the full collection though, so if you really want it, you'd need to spend the extra $10 over just the expansion.
