I prefer the SNES over the Genesis, but he's right. Compare Super Mario World to Sonic & Knuckles and tell me which system sounds tinny.BurningDoom wrote:SNES sound tinny? Vs. the Genesis? Not kidding. I usually play through my sound system as well. It all boils down to how well composers made use of the hardware. Both can pull off great compositions if done right. Comparing the two would be like comparing apples to oranges though.BurningDoom wrote:

What I'm confused about is DKC sounding "muffled".BoringSupreez wrote:I prefer the SNES over the Genesis, but he's right. He never said vs the Genesis. He was probably comparing it to the SNES games with very high quality sound.BurningDoom wrote:SNES sound tinny? Vs. the Genesis? (probably could find a better example)Dylan wrote:What I'm confused about is DKC sounding "muffled".
(Listen to the percussion on this one)
Yes, that's what I mean. The Genesis wasn't inclusive in my comparison. Super Mario Kart sounds clean but man the bass could've been done way better.GameMasterGuy wrote:He never said vs the Genesis. He was probably comparing it to the SNES games with very high quality sound.

I thought since it was a Sega thread, that it was implied we were comparing them against Sega systems. Sorry.

The conversation four pages in being on-topic? You must be thinking of a different Racketboy XD

The problem with forums that are strict about staying on-topic is that any thread longer than about 2-3 pages isn't worth reading past that point because the replies become redundant.GameMasterGuy wrote:The conversation four pages in being on-topic? You must be thinking of a different Racketboy XD

Not sure what you mean.BurningDoom wrote:I thought since it was a Sega thread, that it was implied we were comparing them against Sega systems. Sorry.
Here's a pretty clean DKC track. In fact, it's one of my most favorite tracks in the game, though the percussion still has that filter feel to it.
I could swear that the SNES makes use of a low-pass filter which is why some games (or certain areas of music like how Life in the Mines sound nice and crisp but the percussion is dull) don't sound as clear. I wonder if it's possible to disable it in an emulator. I haven't emulated in forever, been playing on real hardware.
