Yeah, but anime is not live action TV with actors. The originality still applies, even on the off chance that he did take those ideas from anime. I'm sure everything has been done some where in some time, but Firefly was different for a live action Sci Fi TV show and really paved the way in some ways for the much more successful BSG.wip3outguy7 wrote:Well that all depends. I'm seriously not trying to start a pissing contest here, but I think a lot of people overlook this.
Ninja edit: And yeah, I was saying the same thing about the Wachowskis when the Matrix came out.

I don't agree. Just because someone took a bunch of ideas from cartoons and converted it over to a live action series, doesn't automatically make it original. After watching a few episodes of Firefly I figured someone spent a week watching all of Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star and banged out a script with enough liberties to make it their own.Gamerforlife wrote:Yeah, but anime is not live action TV with actors. But hey, nothing's really original these days and Seinfeld isn't funny anymore.

But why May 4th? May 25th is when A New Hope came out, so that make sense (and two weeks after Douglas Adams died).Stark wrote:May the Fourth be with you.fastbilly1 wrote:When did this happen? Star Wars day is supposed to be the same day as Towel day. You know, May 25th.Luke wrote:Oh fuck.
I forgot this is the day for lame ass Star Wars jokes. I may have to completely avoid the Internet today.

I thought it was because of that stupid May the Fourth quote. ^fastbilly1 wrote:But why May 4th? May 25th is when A New Hope came out, so that make sense (and two weeks after Douglas Adams died).Stark wrote:May the Fourth be with you.

I love Cowboy Bebop! I can see the similarities now! Still I love Firefly and Cowboy Bebop.wip3outguy7 wrote:After watching a few episodes of Firefly I figured someone spent a week watching all of Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star and banged out a script with enough liberties to make it their own.

Comparing anime and hollywood. What can I compare Fist of the North Star to?
HNK is my favortie anime show. And I recommend watching all of the Firefly episodes. Forget the movie Serenity which is pointless.
Thanks for the tip on Outlaw Star. I´ll have to check that.

I think you'll like it. Outlaw Star is a bit more campy, but it's still a solid show.d123456 wrote:I love Cowboy Bebop! I can see the similarities now! I may have come off as disliking Firefly, but that's not true. I actually enjoy it quite a bit and I liked Serenity even more.

Re: Joss Whedon Does Star Wars: Good Idea?
I'm not subscribed to the fact that ONLY Whedon should do it. Nor am I subscribed to the fact that the original Star Wars Trilogy should be remade.
However, if the Star Wars franchise does move forward in movie form in any way, whether that be in the form of a remake, more prequels, or sequels (which is what I'd REALLY want to see); I do feel that Lucas shouldn't be the main-mind behind it. It's become painfully obvious that he has no clue what makes Star Wars cool anymore. He sees it as nothing more than a cash cow, and sadly, treats it as such.
So if not Whedon, who else could do it?

If it's not Darren, David, or David (Lynch and Cronenburg, naturally) I'm gonna have a bad time.

That was supposed to read:I'm subscribed to the fact that ONLY Whedon should do it.
I'm not subscribed to the fact that ONLY Whedon should do it.
Which is now fixed.
