Re: Best hardware revision of all time?
DSLite was the best revision. I think that helped the DS to be the most popular handheld. Everyone had a DSLite.
The second best revisions would be the PS3 Slim and the XBox 360 slim. They greatly improved the reliability of the consoles and reduced their heat output.

The PSone is smaller, more durable, and much more attractive looking. And the NES Toaster is listed as bad because it only supports RF without modding.Menegrothx wrote:Whats so special about PSone? Only the first Playstation models had heating problems and the size difference beteween PS2 and PS2 Slim is a lot bigger. And why is NES toaster worst hardware revision? Its not even official so I dont see how you could include it in a list like this. Famicom to NES is probably the worst hardware revision of all time alongside C64GS when it comes to game consoles.

SNES Mini ditched S-video support. Genesis 2 is worse than Genesis 1 because the sound isn't as good, and it doesn't have a headphone jack. Genesis 3 is worse than Genesis 2 because it doesn't support the SCD or 32X, and I've heard it has compatibility issues with a few games.ElkinFencer10 wrote:While I totally agree with the Wii, Why was the SNES Mini worse? That's what I have, and I'm very satisfied with it, though I never had the original model to compare. Also, what makes each Genesis remodel worse than the last? I have the original (I REALLY wanted those giant "16-BIT" letters).

Agree that 360 deserves consideration. Failure rates before the revision were ridiculous. It feels wrong to "reward" Microsoft for making the console not fail miserably due to poor engineering though.
DS to DS Lite probably gets my vote. It was enough to convince me that buying one was worthwhile, and the DS line hasn't seen significant profile changes since.
Finally, it hurts to see people laughing at the GBA Micro - still one of my favorite portable systems of all time. The screen is beautiful and the hardware is quality all the way. Losing backwards compatibility hurts, but Nintendo deserves some props for making one of the smallest portables of all time.

Re: Best hardware revision of all time?
Thats a silly reason, as its subjective and some times inferioir models look better. For instanceBoringSupreez wrote: much more attractive looking.
SMS model 2 looks better than 1 (and is smaller)
N gage looks better than N Gage QD
Sega CD model 1 looks better than Model 2
3DO FZ-1 looks better than FZ-10
NES looks better than NES 2 (although its RF-only)
Is PSOne more durable than the new PS1 models? Like I said, its only the earlier models that had technical difficulties. And the actually removed plug in options from the newer models http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PlayS ... -Backs.jpg

This is the reason I didn't even consider the 360. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that even the newest model still has the highest fail rate of this generation.ejamer wrote:It feels wrong to "reward" Microsoft for making the console not fail miserably due to poor engineering though.

The 60gb PS3 has become almost as notorious as the original 360 in terms of failure rate. Turns out the timer was just a bit longer on those timebombs.ElkinFencer10 wrote:This is the reason I didn't even consider the 360. Didn't stop me from hunting down another one though. I figure if I keep it dusted out and where it is with lots of ventilation, it'll be fine.

New sleek design, a little smaller, internal WiFi, touch sensitive buttons, more silent fan, lower fail rate...ElkinFencer10 wrote:This is the reason I didn't even consider the 360. Hardly a contestant just because of the lower fail rate...

Interesting that, Sony for the PS3 slim removed the touch sensitive "buttons" because people complained they didn't like them. Then for the 360 slim Microsoft went ahead and put touch sensitive "buttons".elmagicochrisg wrote:New sleek design, a little smaller, internal WiFi, touch sensitive buttons, more silent fan, lower fail rate...ElkinFencer10 wrote:This is the reason I didn't even consider the 360. I for one, don't really care, since this generation of consoles can largely be controlled with the controller. I haven't touched my PS3's buttons at all.

Re: Best hardware revision of all time?
One possible downside is the combination cat / Xbox 360.
One of my cats likes to sniff the 360's power button. Maybe it's the sound it makes when she touches it with her nose, I dunno. Anyways, this has resulted in a few intense gaming sessions ending pretty abruptly. Followed by me yelling: "Goddammit, stop sniffing that power button you naked monkey!..."
So yeah, touch buttons are cool, as long as your cat doesn't find out about them... -_-

Ok, that's definitely one of the stranger stories I've read here.elmagicochrisg wrote:One possible downside is the combination cat / Xbox 360.
