VGChartz can be wildly inaccurate but lets compare to Metroid Prime Trilogy. I read preorders for Metroid were 110k, obviously quite a bit less than Xenoblade. BUT with Operation Rainfall, RPG fans have been trying to show Nintendo RPGs are worth it. One way to impress is to lay down your money as soon as you can. Because of this Xenoblade will have a huge preorder-to-total sales ratio.BoringSupreez wrote:According to VGChartz, there have been 187,091 pre-orders so far. Assuming this number is accurate, does this mean Xenoblade won't be a rare/valuable game?
Metroid sold 650k, according to VGChartz. With Xenoblade, a good fraction of the people looking to buy it, have already preordered. The rest will come through limited distribution.
You also have to account for the people who just went out and got the European version since hope was lost that it was actually coming here. That is a good amount of lost sales, so it's safe to assume the total sales will be less than Metroid.
The collector market will be interesting after a year. Metroid has more broad appeal, thus having larger demand. But since Xenoblade will probably have less copies, RPGs usually hold better value, and it's an original game unlike Metroid, all lead me to believe it's price will be on par or better with Metroid Prime Trilogy.
It's pretty safe to say it's worth the $50, especially if kept sealed.
