I got about half way through III, and I have to admit the story was quite good. It's the only thing that kept me going, but ultimately wasn't enough. The battle system does pick up once you get farther, get new characters, etc... but even at it's best it's a weak and boring one. And the visuals, jeez... I'm the farthest thing from a graphics whore there is, but god those were some ugly character models, with super stiff animations to go with them. The music in that game was pretty lousy too. If only III was a more direct continuation of the first two games, stuck with 2D, and didn't screw up the battle system.

I'll end up checking out IV and V down the road, but I'm sure nothing beats the greatness of the PSX ones. Those were some finely crafted RPGs.

I think V might outclass the first game. You're in for a treat with that one, it connects to the first two a good bit and the battle system is just like the old games. Great music, awesome everything.

The only silly complaint I have and remember is that the environments were very plain, lol. But oh well. It also had one of the coolest castles in the series I'd say (but I guess I admittedly haven't seen III or IV's).

So yeah V was a real surprise and is easily up there with the first two for me.

Suikoden III is the only one I've played though I own Suikoden I. I liked the story, though I got confused a little towards the end. I just didn't like how the game has you doing the same thing and playing the same parts over and over. I'm not fond of the whole, seeing a story from different angles thing. It doesn't work in video games because it just amounts to repetition like in Odin Sphere

Hmm I really enjoyed 3. I also loved 1 and 2, with 2 being my favorite I think. Haven't played IV or V yet. IV turned me off with the 4 character limit so I didn't try it.

Many of those games in the OP I tend to associate with their developers and not Sony. :p This is especially the case with Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy since I usually think of them as Level 5 games first and foremost.

You're doing yourself a disservice by not playing 5.
4 was crap I'll give you that, but 5 is an elegant return to form.

BTW: Isn't this thread about Sony RPGs? Why are we talking about Enix, Square, and Konami developed games in here. XD

Dudes, I say this is getting far off from the OP's intention.

It is true that Sony has good RPG IPs they haven't use, I did enjoy playing Wild Arms on the PSX, and you have to admit FF VII is superior but Wild Arms is worth playing (I gotta say the materia system hasn't aged well - it makes your characters almost irrelevant from one another besides the Limit Break, the same sin for FF XII for its license broad).

I did have a blast with Rogue Galaxy, and kinda of interesting for the craft system (I did NOT enjoy Tales of Abyss recipes at all!). Legends of Dragoon, I'd say that I didn't like the Addition system that much (IMO, worst than Judgement Ring from Shadow Hearts), but the character designs and Dragoon transformation are quite a notch from its contemporary works (anyone remember the promo - NOT coming to a theater near you!).

But true, Sony has NOT made any followups to several of these games, and I did suggest that Sony could find someone to work on sequel to LoD on the Vita to use its touchscreen. And maybe have an on-line PvP treasure hunt competition for Wild Arms, have the Cross-Platform play for the next Dark Cloud.
