I did. Arcade. But I got further in 360 and got this score. Weird.

Yeah, yr score will have nothing do with how far you go - just a matter of how quickly you can get a chain going...and how long you can sustain it.

I've hit 30 mil by the 5th stage, i've made the stage 7 boss at under 12 mil.

I figured out my score discrepancy. I was playing Arcade Mode first, which got me that 12M score. Then I switched to 360 Mode which looks prettier. I got to the last level just now. (OMG! So close to my first 1CC!) But still, a much smaller score. Here's the thing, in 360 Mode it doesn't force you to raise the difficulty level. Arcade Mode lets you pick 1 what? Twice? And then ups it after that, right? 360 you can stay as 1 default the whole time. Either mode, I've just stayed default so on 360 it was 1-1-1-etc but on Arcade it was 1-1-2-2-etc. Get it?

However, you may choose level 3 all the time on 360 mode. This enables you to maintain much higher chains and a higher score.

After giving up on Metal Black, I've decided to crack open my Deathsmiles - man, this game rocks! Probably didn't do a dent to anyone's' score here but here is mine (default settings, arcade mode, XBOX 360)

I'm having a tough time. I feel like the more I focus on score, the smaller my score ends up. I'm building up my chain and grabbing crowns before they turn to skulls and not using my power-up shot to waste a chain... experimenting with doing level 3's first, 1's first, 2's first... for some reason I'm not even hitting 10M. :?

Welcome to Cave. The more you try to squeeze max points out of each stage, the harder the game gets.

Sometimes it helps to just lightly score in the places you know you can get away with it (IE The volcano stage for shittons of points), and play for survival the rest of the time.

One enat trick you can do in this game: While in crazy overdrive mode, as it is running out, stop collecting the crazy amount of gems on the screen. At this point, when your crazy runs out, collecting those gems can bring your counter back up to max and allow you to instantly go back into overdrive mode.

Also... while in overdrive mode, let the items fall and break into small skulls before collecting them. The multiplier that is added to items you collect is based on number of items collected while in OD mode, not based on how large they are.

Once your multiplier is at max, THEN you want to grab the biggest items, as you will have a 10k multiplier added to each item (You know you are at this point when big shiny 10,000's are flashing for each itme you pick up)

Hope that helps someone... I miss this fine game. :(

I'm gonna watch your replay later xan. I'm trying to figure out WTF I'm doing "wrong." I keep playing Deathsmiles. Keep getting "better" at it. Yet, my scores keep getting worse. It's really weird. I feel like I'm chaining things, grabbing items before they turn to skulls, etc etc. But I've got to be doing something wrong...

If your chain isn't maxed out (with 10,000 multipliers adding to each item), then you actually want to let the items drop to the ground, as the number of items is what increases the multiplier. Only start picking them up before they drop once your multiplier is maxed.

Also worth noting, you can't be hit by enemies/rocks/nonbullets while in crazy mode, so the volcano is a great stage to score on by milking those rock-spewing volcanoes at point blank.

Also, Jitterbug drops a 2up if you kill him without a bomb, which will help greatly against the last boss.

Yeah, talking about this game is about as close to playing it as I can get, so I am probably sounding like a broken record.
