I feel so conused - I really, really should know all the differences in the dodon series...but I don't.
I was going to grab a DoDonpachi Daioujou Black Label as I am under the impression that is the best? This game will be available soon via PCB I assume.
So, basically, DOJ is considered the best original style ddp. Black label starts a bit easier, and has more managable 2nd loop rules, but people play both. I usually play bl. Unlike most vanilla to black label changes, these two are very similar.
Dai Fukkatsu is a ddp, but very changed. Theres auto bomb, bullet cancelling hypers, etc. this bl is also completely different, made by the man that did garegga.
Yeah, Bee Storm was outsourced to another company. A lot of people still have a lot of fun with it though.
yeah, the Black Labels get confusing. Its similar to something like Street Fighter IV getting re-released over and over, with slight changes. Black Labels will use the same sprites and backgrounds, as well as the same bosses, and at least similar ships. What they change is the game mechanics and scoring system, as well as usually having a new soundtrack, and possibly a new character.
I know some differences in Deathsmiles to DSBL:
In BL, you can pick whatever rank you want, as many times as you want.
in BL, if you pick level 3 rank 3 times in a row, you will gain access to rank 999
If you hit rank 999 and start the bonus stage, the bonus stage will be at death rank 999 lvl 2
In BL, there is an additional optional bonus stage
In BL, you can play as Sakura, the boss of the swamps.
Those are only the changes I can remember, but Black Labels will usually do things like that. Deathsmiles has more changed than most games would though. The changes from DOJ to DOJBL are not as severe, and you will only really notice the slight difficulty change.
It gets even more confusing when you start to look at version numbers and blue labels. Some games have been reworked so many times its not even funny. There are 4 different master version Pink sweets PCBs, each of them having a different number of "."s at the end of Master Ver, and each havign slightly different changes to them.
