Together Retro: Super Monkey Ball
Re: Together Retro: Super Monkey Ball
I've been trying to track down a copy of the original on the Cube, but sadly I've only found the second. I kinda forgot about Deluxe, so I may just grab a copy of that for either the PS2 or Xbox and join in, this will be my first time doing Together Retro and it's nice that it's a series I've always wanted to try but just never got around to.
Re: Together Retro: Super Monkey Ball
I've got to figure out how to use my X-arcade trackball with this game. The thing is essentially a PS/2 mouse. It's not compatible with the console adaptors for the joystick unfortunately. Is there a PS2 controller adaptor that lets you use a PS/2 mouse as an analog stick?
I'd take gamecube or xbox too. Wonder if the Xbox port is controllable with a USB mouse? Maybe my best bet is to emulate the arcade? What emulators support this game?

We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!

I couldn't find this at my local Game Champ, and, I shamefully admit, I even went to Gamestop, but thankfully all their copies were missing manuals (I must have CIB or else I don't buy). It might take a while for me to get a hold of a copy, but seeing as I didn't actually finish Shining Force, I may try to do that instead.
PS - Anyone recognize Shining Force from the most recent podcast? Good tune.

Don't use a trackball for this game. It sounds like it'd be ideal, but it really isn't at ALL.
The arcade version used an analog joystick, i'm sure most flightsticks would be good replacements.
The arcade game is a Naomi game, so Makaron's probably your best bet for an emulator.

I forgot there was an RB Podcast.

Anyways, my copy is on the way. Can't wait!

Re: Together Retro: Super Monkey Ball
I played Super Monkey Ball 2 for a while tonight and made it to the second level of the third world.
I'm not quite sure if I am fully getting it but it seems that luck plays a large role in the game and I really don't know exactly how I passed some levels.
I will admit that I love looking for jumps and shortcuts to get the best time for each course... but some courses I am just happy to get to the end.
I'm still not sure if I'm diggin this game or not.

I think a problem that a lot of us will find is that as a multiplayer ("party") game, Super Monkey Ball is incredible. But as a single player experience... it loses something.

Re: Together Retro: Super Monkey Ball
I enjoyed the Shining Force TR, and really like this program. However, Super Monkey Ball illicits an irrational hate from me for the game lol. A friend in college liked it and had me play it, and I really cannot stand this game haha.

I forget the name, anyone ever play it? It was straight up just like Super Monkey Ball and a lot of fun.
Maybe NEVERBALL? Also for the Mac and PC.
