You gotta try this new game. It's called Minecraft.
Re: You gotta try this new game. It's called Minecraft.
I don't really remember as I haven't touched it in probably 2 years now. I must have gone down fairly deep 100s of squares. I also only ever found gold and diamonds like once, and some other random rock colors (emeralds perhaps?)
Probably at this rate if I ever fired it up again I'd start from scratch and hope for the best. I usually had no problem making glass for windows and getting the metal required for a better door and all that, gear too. Never got far enough into it to fashion body armor though.

started up a bit. Noise World was generated and I found myself on a beach. So I started hollowing out a cliff so that my new abode would face the ocean. Survived a night in there where three zombies stood outside my door/window watching me. Then I went and chopped down some trees so I could build a crafting table. That's enough for now. I feel like this game works best for me in 30 min spurts.

Yeah things can start pretty slow. My recommendation is to find some sheep to kill. Get yourself 3 wool so you can make a bed that sets your respawn point and changes night to day. Things move much smoother from there.noiseredux wrote:started up a bit. Noise World was generated and I found myself on a beach. And start planning what your home base is going to look like. I recommend looking at these for inspiration:

Aww crap, so that's how to mess with time. Shows how much I don't know about crafting or playing this game. 3 wool +wood I guess = bed. Makes sense.
I remembered my login/pass nice! Shame you can't cross buy on this but I get why. Otherwise I would use the pocket one on my phone and tablet.

Also there are differences between the pocket version and pc and console versions. All of them bring something to the table.Tanooki wrote:Aww crap, so that's how to mess with time. Shows how much I don't know about crafting or playing this game. 3 wool +wood I guess = bed. Makes sense.

Well it appears I'm not allowed to play the game.
I just downloaded it and every time I try and run it crashes.
Game Crash: An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience. (And no reason why.) This is new. The last time I played this it didn't even have this pretty menu but the older one where you could tweak all the settings.

also there's a PC version and a Windows 10 version. I'm playing the latter. I don't know if servers work between the two.
The Windows 10 edition has Oculus Rift support, though.

As you play, let me know if there are barriers to your world. I have a dreading feeling that the windows 10 version is simply the console version which has barriers.noiseredux wrote:also there's a PC version and a Windows 10 version. I'm playing the latter. hmm. Oddly, apparently Windows 10 Edition is based on Pocket Edition.

I mean, I'm honestly not super concerned about versions as I'm not really seeing myself getting heavily into this game. More or less just demoing for a while to try to understand the broad appeal.
Plus like I mentioned, just walking around Minecraft in VR was pretty incredible. So I'm pleased considering I got the game free anyway.
