The modem may be to transfer files from one modem to the other, so thats my good guess. how else would you connect the two and transfer information? with both modems of course!!

Because to plug in this supposed Zip module, you would have to remove the 56k modem from the DC so the Zip can use the expansion port.

argh. thats what i said initially before removing my comments not to look silly, since it does appear that there is an expansion port on the zip disk itself.
