No doubt about that! I don't actually recommend using foil instead of a fuse (or spare wire, or whatever is under the cushions on your couch). Yeah, it would work in a pinch, but of course if there is a surge... the protection that the fuse would have given is no longer there. Anything could blow instead.

Fuses are fairly simple to replace. Without a fuse, you'd be spending who knows how much time trying to find out what blew. Then, depending on what blew, it might be way more trouble/expense than it's worth.

Yup, well aware.

It's still funny to suggest some foil you find in your house as a MacGyver solution, though. 8)

Fuses and fuse holders are pretty hard to screw up. Is it really a 1.5 Amp fuse though?

I don't know. I guess I can only tell when I get it. Should I go for an automobile style fuse?

That's the same type of fuse holder I used on a SNES before. I think 1.5A is too much though. Not sure what the original fuse rating is, but I think the one I replaced in mine was 1.2A (IIRC).

Hmm, one on Mmmmonkey and elsewhere is a 1.5. Just seems a bit large to me. Ah well.

Hmm, maybe my memory is foggy. Mmmonkey said it's 1.5a, but he replaced it with a 1 amp fuse. Maybe what happen was that I read it was 1.5a, but I put in a 1.2a because that's what I was able to find.

you mean "too big" as in strength? the guide says a different guy he knew successfully used one of those.

The rating on a fuse is the point at which it will blow. So a 1.5 Amp fuse will take anything up to 1.5 Amps and be kosher, but tip over and it blows. The point being that it blows up before something else more valuable or hard to replace if there's a problem. You could put a 10 Amp fuse in there and the SNES would chug along happily... unless there's a problem and whatever overloaded it before crops back up and something else cooks instead of the fuse. Put something rated too little and the fuse will just blow over and over because the 'normal' current in the device is more than the fuse can handle.

I'm just surprised that the fuse in there is 1.5 Amps when the power brick is only feeding the system .85 Amps. That's why a 1.2 and 1 are working ok for people. Best to put in one of the same rating as taken out though unless a device is a poorly engineered POS.
