List of games with dancing or music as combat methods.
Re: List of games with dancing or music as combat methods.
Thanks for clearing that up Inazuma (You've actually been a big help in this whole thread). And whereas that one fight would count I'm only adding games to the list where every fight (Or at least regularly, like every boss) is something like that. Games where it's a standard element to the combat gameplay, not a one-off thing.

I'm guessing "Shinobi: Shadow Dancer" doesn't count?
What about Jun from the Tekken series who uses ballet to attack?
Karai from TMNT:TF (SNES) who pirouettes constantly?
Makeruna Makendo II actually has a combat ballerina.
And in that vein, the various Ranma games that include psycho-gymnast Kodachi.
Actual dance-combat like Kyoshiro (Samurai Shodown) or Eddy (as early as Tekken 2/3) or Elena (Street Fighter III and SF3:W) -- much more interactive than Felicia's Dancing mini-game from Capcom vs SNK: Match of the Millennium (NGPC)
There was this Newgrounds Flash Game, Epic Battle Fantasy, whose hero used an electric guitar as one of his swords (and could rock out as a Limit Break).
Also, many MMORPGs offer the class of dancer or bard (Ragnarok Online, World of Warcraft) ... heck, barding (specifically lute-playing) provided you with a steady source of money in the Krondor (PC) games.
One of Kirby's special attacks in his platforming games was the Microphone Scream -- yelling into the mic is one of his smartbombs.
Jigglypuff - is he still playable? - had the 1-trick mechanic of lulling people to sleep in Smash Bros. (not to mention the Pokemon games)
Gremlins 2 (GB) provided Gizmo with musical notes to throw at enemies.
The entire cast of "Violinist from Hamlin" (SFC)
And why not list Dance Dance Revolution (or its sister spin-off Para-Para)?
Miracle Keyboard (and Mario Paint to an extent) also provided the player with Piano lessons in the form of games.

In Donkey Kong 64, all of the characters have instrument weapons; not only are they used in certain places to trigger events, they'll clear the general vicinity of all enemies. Donkey Kong has the bongos, Diddy has the electric guitar, Lanky has the trombone, Tiny has the saxophone, and Chunky has the triangle.
Also in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Donkey Kong's Final Smash has him playing the bongos to attack.

Shame on all of you! This thread is four pages long, and Ouendan still isn't on the list!

Fair enough, I'll give you a better example. The music box from Sly Cooper 2, which incapacitates guards by putting them to sleep. This makes them easy pickings for a quick, one hit, stealth killMrEco wrote:Unfortunately that one doesn't count. Only because it's a single boss battle. I'm only gonna count the ones that have it as a regular thing, sorry.Gamerforlife wrote:Sly Cooper Vicious Voodoo boss

That reminds me of the music box in Super Mario Brothers 3, that can be used on the map screen to put the hammer brothers guys to sleep.Gamerforlife wrote: Fair enough, I'll give you a better example. Rock of the Dead, you get to use one of your plastic Rockband guitars.
I'm not sure how good the game is even though it looks like a lot of fun. It definitely reminds me of the "Typing of the Dead."

Still no Tekken 1/2/3 on the first post.
Also, there are several Ranma games that feature Kodachi (rhythmic gymnast) or Mariko (combat cheerleading)... unfortunately only one of them was localized -- Street Combat on the SNES. (Where you control a dancing mime.)
Also, BALLZ -- yes, BALLZ -- included a ballerina named Divine.
I still stand by Kyoshiro's (Samurai Showdown series) kabuki-dance style as dancing.pakopako wrote:What about Jun from the Tekken series who uses ballet to attack?
EddyGordo (Tekken 3)
