Chrono Trigger is such an amazing game! If you're new to JRPGs I would recommend starting with this one. Has a ton of depth, but is easy to pick up and play. It's epic as hell, but lacks any padding or boring fetch quests. Takes about 30 hours max to finish.

Secret of Mana is a great game too, but feels a little rushed and unfinished. Having to charge your weapons is annoying, and the magic system is incredibly poorly designed. That said, it's a beautiful game and I find myself doing a playthrough once every few years.

And Final Fantasy VI is the best game of all time.

Pick neither, IMHO they're both vastly overrated. However, Secret of mana 2 is pretty fun.

Damn, someone spent 60 hrs getting through FFVI and Super Mario rpg?

I play those games like arcade games, 1 or 2 sittings. Maio rpg is usually one sitting.

Chrono Trigger, even if I think its a little overated. Secret of Mana is a good game but it's hard as hell.

The way the combat system works if you approach it naively you will probably get crushed by the computer, due to the balance. But once you learn the various tricks for maximizing your damage it becames rather easy.

Ah, yeah, a lot of people in reviews I've read complained about how the secondary characters do nothing at all. To be fair, when I first played it as a kid it took me a few stages to realize you need to wait a few seconds to let your weapon build up. I played Zelda first, obviously.

If you are not into RPGs, then why would you play either?

I am not into baseball. Just because a particular baseball game might be the "best of all time", why would I play it? I don't particularly enjoy first-person shooters, so I am not playing Gears of War or Halo.

I also don't like raw fish, so that sushi restaurant of yours that is "awesome" does not interest me.

I have yet to put any serious time into Secret of Mana, but in the prequel, Final Fantasy Adventure, the other characters really were worthless. There was one that would heal you, but the rest would just wander aimlessly, shooting in your general direction.
