Ack wrote:Finally playing through this now. I see it has lead to a very interesting mix of responses, but being as I have just started Act 5, I think I can safely say that I like the game, even if I find its constant sex jokes more than a little tiresome. Yes, I get it, weapons are phallic. Yes, these kinds of action games are rife with mysogyny and machismo to the point of ridiculousness. But I feel that the game has made its point.

Also, the hori levels...I didn't care for them. Sure, I managed to collect all the white gems in each level, but at the end of each one, I found myself happy to get back to the "real" game.

Oh, and the bosses are incredibly impressive, even if they are a bit crude at times. The three Sisters Grimm fights were challenging but entertaining, even if the third seemed to take forever.
I've liked what I've played of it, I think I'm midway through ACT IV. I have to find time when the wifey isn't home, I don't think she would appreciate the humor. At all.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I really, really wanted to like this game since it looked a lot like RE4 in style and all. But yeah, much like Bayonetta, the jokes, characters, frequent interruptions in gameplay, were just way too much for me. Definitely ended up not caring about it at all.

I like what I've played of Vanquish about 10x more.

For me the game came off as so over the top, that I could only look at it as satire of video games in general and the obsession with big overly muscled supermen with phallic weapons. This game just made it obvious, and did so with a couple of characters that I liked well enough to see it through.

I think Lollipop Chainsaw does a much better job of this, and has a much better script as well

I think the opposite completely. Lolipop chainsaw is Suda 51's worst game. Shadows of the damned was better in every way possible in my eyes. I finished both on day one and I sold lolipop and had to force myself to play through the last stage. I just got that far and didn't care. Looks like Killer is dead will be a return to form I hope. I want another game like Killer 7 so bad and will probably never get it.

Hmm...maybe. I haven't gotten to try it yet. When I give it a shot, I'll see how I feel about it.
