I'm still looking for a copy of Dodonpachi myself

You forgot a couple:Breetai wrote:SNES gets A+, B- and B-.
Saturn gets B-, A+ and A+.
Platformers: SNES gets an A+, dunno what the Saturn gets, honestly.
Price: SNES gets A+, Saturn gets B-

No way Salamander is close to that much money. It can be had in the $30 range sometimes. The other games listed are the ones that do get high in price, but these are by no means the majority of Saturn shooters. I'm guessing the OP is in no hurry to aquire all of these.dunpeal2064 wrote:Breetai wrote:[quote="DinnerX"Regularly go for at least $70+, some well over that
Radiant Silvergun
Battle Garegga
Batsugun
Hyper Duel
Blast Wind
Thunderforce 5
Steam Hearts
Image Fight/X-Multiply
Kyokyuko Tiger 2
Thunderforce Gold Pack 2
Salamander Deluxe Pack
Cotton Boomerang
The OP didn't ask about platformers. I do agree on the "A+", though. NOTHING bests the SNES when it comes to platformers. The only thing in the same league is the Genesis/MD, and, despite the brilliant offerings from Sega and Konami, the SNES is still better overall.o.pwuaioc wrote:You forgot a couple:Breetai wrote:SNES gets A+, B- and B-.

Platformers:
SNES: A+
Saturn: B- (don't forget, it has Sonic 1, 2, 3 and S&K. Those bring it up a whole grade, IMO!)
As for price... that is relative. Some of the RPGs on the SNES is quite expensive. Mega Man X2 and X3 are not cheap at all. I wouldn't give the SNES an A+ in affordability, but I wouldn't give the Saturn that either.

Wow I didn't know Salamander was so cheap, thats awesome.
Was only posting that because I thought that was more than "a few"
Agreed though, the list of decently-priced shooters would probably be even longer.

Sheesh. The Saturn really is becoming more expensive to collect for.
I couldn't imagine SNES shmups jumping around this much.

That's because they aren't very good.pakopako wrote:Sheesh. The Saturn really is becoming more expensive to collect for.

Super Aleste, Super R-Type, R-Type III, Area 88/UN Squadron, Axelay, Gradius III (despite massive slowdown!), the three Parodius games and the Twin Bee sequel are all good or very good. Fortunately, they are all fairly common. Just Super Aleste is a bit more expensive. Still, the Saturn list of good/very good shooters is MUCH longer.dsheinem wrote:That's because they aren't very good.pakopako wrote:Sheesh. PS2, Saturn, PC Engine, Genesis/MD, and Dreamcast are the top shooter consoles, IMO, and in that order. I guess the 360 is creeping up there, too.

Ah, oops.Breetai wrote:The OP didn't ask about platformers.
There's about two dozen games on the SNES that are really expensive, but there are tons of lesser known titles that are mere dollars. Granted, not all of them are quality, but most can be had for cheap. I guess since the quality ones are expensive, that would bring the ranking down from an A+ to about an A-.As for price... that is relative. Some of the RPGs on the SNES is quite expensive. I agree with Breetai's assessment for the most part. But as others have mentioned, you can build a larger library of high calibre titles for SNES/Super Famicom for a bit cheaper.

If you are a fran of Cave, the 360 is far more than "creeping up there"
For me, saturn is top of the list for shmups. I don't have a jp ps2 though, I need to invest in one of those.
It seems like a lot of the ps2 shooters are ports from other systems though. How many great exclusive shooters are there for the system?
Oh wait... I guess jp ps2 would include the jp ps1 library as well. That would definitely put it way up there.
As for SNES shooters, they don't suck. Axelay is amazing, and Macross Scrambled Valkyrie is great as well. Super Aleste and U.N. Squad are also top nothc.
The parodius games are all available on the saturn, and most are better there than on the SNES... but slightly more pricey too.
Yay shmups
