I loved this comment.

Yeah, this story was very touching. Nothing like watching an older brother completely undemind and dishonor his father in front of his younger sibling. Especially when he let ol' pops know that it was "his money" and the father was going to have no say in what the younger boy was and was not to have. I wonder where the 17 year old got the money and if he would have had to spend if his dad wasn't paying for room, board, probably auto insurance and a cell phone to boot. The lesson here is that we have to ungrateful children who dishonored their father in public and a bunch of commentato­rs that have put themselves on a moral plateau because they believe that a father should not set boundaries for a 12 year-old boy. Way to go America.

His ability to see it from the other side makes me instantly like him. The way he worded it almost makes me want to agree with him.

Oh yeah because that 17 year old couldn't have a job on his own and he should always honor the father who more than likely beats his kids.

I got a job when I was 15 years old and payed for all of my clothes and "extras" from that point on. I was pretty thrifty and not all that into new clothes all the time, and when I had extra, I would often buy my little sister presents. It's entirely conceivable that the older brother had a job and worked to get the money he was spending. A lot of teens do.

I agree fullly with setting boundaries for kids... with regards to drug use, alcohol use, studying/academics, etc....

Setting boundaries for how "manly" your son has to be is just setting everyone up for a world of hurt-- the boy for feeling like he is never, ever good enough and that his father dislikes who he really is, and the father for the inevitable pain of losing his son down the road-- be it to suicide or to a forced seperation when the son finally realizes he has to be who he is inside in SPITE of his father.

The point is, whatever the kid likes or whatever his sexual orientation may be doesn't matter. It's all good. Being yourself is what's important. Hopefully his father is open minded enough to accept and love his son for who he is.

I doubt the guy was being serious with the comment but there probably is some truth to what he said.

I'm not saying the fellow beats his kids. But the comments made were inappropriate and detrimental to the welfare of that child.
