Regardless of whose fault it is, it sucks for the PSN users who looked forward to gaming this weekend.. Shame on whomever caused this - it's either letting down loyal consumers (if Sony's fault,) or innocent gamers (if Anon's fault.)
Though playing online on the PS3 is free.

... just had to go there.

Sony wouldn't be able to get away with their bullshit if people didn't support them. Sony's customers are partially to blame for this and they deserve this PSN downtime.
Think about this scenario for a second. I buy a PS3. I like the games on the PS3 (Which are not made by Sony). So I choose to play and continue to play games on my PS3. Regardless of Sony's role I'm not gonna deny myself games that I have fun with just because I don't like a company that they are loosely related with. And PSN is fuckin' free so it doesn't support Sony in any way like you seem to think.
Niode wrote:No it's not. It's about consumer rights and whether or not you own the hardware you pay money for. If Sony's actions don't worry you or scare you then, shit, you're an idiot. Sorry, but to just not care that your rights as a consumer are being well and truly butt-fucked you must be living in cloud fucking cuckoo land. IF Sony get away with this shit it means they can do it again, and again, and again. If Sony can get away with it, then maybe other companies will start doing it, until it gets to the point where I've boycotted so many companies that I have to give up everything and go nomad. I don't want that to happen. Do you want that to happen?
What has Sony removed that inconvenienced me personally? I haven't noticed any lack of content whatsoever. I never used (and never planned on using) the Other OS thing and as far as I know nothing else was removed because I have not been hampered in any way by a lack of features. The people that actually used Other OS can complain all they want, but why should I care? Basically, either you were being unnecessarily insulting by calling Flake a "fucking idiot" or you were generalizing and stereotyping on an entire group of people you've never met in order to make very harsh judgments that don't accurately describe all of the people in the aforementioned group. Come to think of it, you would seem to be unnecessarily insulting either way.

Sure, PSN's basic service is free. And granted their premium service doesn't arguably offer enough to warrant the money. Either way, though, in order to use said service - free or not - you sign an agreement with the company that says Sony agrees to provide you with a service in exchange for playing by their rules.

Well, everybody who is playing by these rules, agreeing to Sony's terms are being slapped in the face right now.

While MS (or M$ which I guess is the hip way of typing it nowadays) is no better or worse a company than Sony, the fact remains that while, yes, I'm paying $50+ a year to play games online, stream Last.FM, watch ESPN3, and use Netflix, I've NEVER in the last 3 1/2 years of using their premium service had so much as a single bandwidth hiccup that wasn't my own fault. Sony, free or not, can't say the same.

Just sayin'....

When you buy a 3rd party game, some of that money goes to Sony. Unless you make sure to buy your Sony products used, you are supporting them by giving them money.

And it doesn't matter if you personally use Other OS or not. It's a matter of principal. Just because Sony thinks Other OS could potentially be used for software piracy, and that software piracy could potentially be used in an immoral way, causing Sony to lose money, they decided to step in and remove a feature that we paid for.

It's like if you bought a car and then Toyota sends a guy to your house to remove the overdrive button, saying that some people may use it to help them run from the police. Since you are an irresponsible selfish person, you shrug and say "Oh well, I never used overdrive myself and since I don't care about consumer rights or other people, I will just bend over and let Toyota remove features from my car."

a principal he doesn't care about because it doesn't matter to him. To use your own example, it would be like if he bought a Toyota and someone came to his house and said "hey we're taking the ashtray" and he was like "I don't give a shit, I don't smoke. Take it."

You weren't affected by Sony's decision therefore you have absolutely zero input on this discussion. You don't care. Therefore your opinion is null. Good day.

Also, I didn't call anyone a 'fucking idiot', can you read?

This is what you get when you buy Sony. Have a problem connecting to Sony's servers? No problem, run your own. Oh wait, can't do that either. Don't like it? Sorry, that's what you signed up for.
