I'd honestly be fine with that. A new Darkstalkers game that looked like SF4 or MvC3 would be great. I just don't realistically seeing it happen. The only way I could see a Darkstalkers 4 would be if they did a PSN re-release of Chaos Tower of 3 or whatever and it actually sold really well.sabrage wrote:I'd love to see a 2.5D Darkstalkers. Purists can hate, but I think the series is overdue for a Street Fighter 4-style reboot. I'll settle for an HD rerelease, of course.

Sadly, I don't think Capcom would even care if it sold well. They want one million people actively asking for their product before they even consider it which we all know is ludicrous.noiseredux wrote:The only way I could see a Darkstalkers 4 would be if they did a PSN re-release of Chaos Tower of 3 or whatever and it actually sold really well.
They just don't want to move their asses from the pile of money they are sitting on. They don't want to move a finger to make money out of the smaller franchises they have.
Sorry about the negativity but lately I can't help but think that the management world is fucked up

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the success of SF2HD lead to SF4?General_Norris wrote: Sadly, I don't think Capcom would even care if it sold well. They want one million people actively asking for their product before they even consider it which we all know is ludicrous.

Re: Ono wants to make a new Darkstalkers
I thought those two games were developed either around the same time, or SFIV came out within a year after SSFIIHD. (I remember sitting on the demo/beta for SSFIIHD for awhile before they actually released the full game.)noiseredux wrote:correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the success of SF2HD lead to SF4?General_Norris wrote: Sadly, I don't think Capcom would even care if it sold well. Also, I could of sworn that the reason they'll never make a 2.5D Darkstalkers is because of certain characters movesets (ie - Demitri) not being able to translate or code well into the 2.5 dimension. I'm probably wrong or mis-interpreted the information, but that's what I kind of remember hearing around the time MvC3 came out, (and I pined for Raptor and Demitri.)

I'm looking for the link, but I'm 99.9 percent sure HDR's success is what gave Ono the ammo to get SFIV into production, it'd certainly been pitched before.
Interesting note, HDR only sold around the 250,000/300,000 on my last browse through of sales records, so that 1,000,000 mark they're looking for from Darkstalkers seems as though it's just trolling.

I would like to see a new Darkstalkers title come out. The character design was on point.
Re: Ono wants to make a new Darkstalkers
I'm a huge Darkstalkers fan - it is my favorite fighting game series, if not my favorite video game series altogether.
Even so, I've resigned that Capcom will never touch this franchise again outside of crossover games - and even if they did, it would end up being some abomination that no one would truly enjoy.
They'd try their damnedest to make Darkstalkers into something that would appeal to a wider audience, and doing so would go completely against what Darkstalkers is about. It would just end up pissing off the hard-core fans of the series while not getting any new fans because all the folks who weren't sold on DS before aren't ever going to be sold on it unless they added Akuma, Dante and Jill to the game.

No, If I recall, it was due to the noticable success of SF2 Hyper Fighting on XBL as well as massive positive feedback received from the unlockable street fighter costumes in the final Onimusha release on PS2.correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the success of SF2HD lead to SF4?
SF4 was already in the pipline when HD was announced. The game was mostly made as way to appease the fans while SF4 was still in the works as well as major experiment to see if Capcom U.S.A. was capable of handling a SF game without the aid of any japanese development arm.
Yup, couldn't agree more.Even so, I've resigned that Capcom will never touch this franchise again outside of crossover games - and even if they did, it would end up being some abomination that no one would truly enjoy.

so to go back to the original point I was making, Capcom used a downloadable title to guage interest in making a new full game.CD AGES wrote: No, If I recall, it was due to the noticable success of SF2 Hyper Fighting on XBL as well as massive positive feedback received from the unlockable street fighter costumes in the final Onimusha release on PS2.

A game company trying to keep money by not releasing a game that won't sell? GASP! That's unheard of!General_Norris wrote: Sadly, I don't think Capcom would even care if it sold well.
