But parents can ban TV from kids. There were plenty of kids with strict Christian parents that I knew. Heck, I knew one kid with satellite, back when satellite was expensive and used that monster of a dish and came with like every channel on the continent. And even though he had all that, the parents had like every channel locked except Christian channels, nature/learning channels, PBS, and news channels.Hatta wrote:True, but why don't we ban other things that people might find offensive. It's OK to ban things for children as long their parents can still allow them to do it, right?BurningDoom wrote:^ But a kid can buy an M-rated game if their parents are present and say it's okay. The issue is selling to kids without their parents present.
So what about my Fox News example? Lets ban Fox News for children, unless they have parental consent. Would that be OK?
When you understand why it's not ok to ban Fox News for children without parental consent, you'll understand why it's not ok to ban violent video games for children without parental consent.
And it's a simple fix if the parent is okay with it, bring your parent with you or have your parent buy it for you. No one is completely banning anything from anyone. It's just that no one should have the right to take that decision away from the parent which is exactly what a store is doing if they sell an M-rated game to a kid without parental consent.
