Re: Recommended podcasts!
so I listened to a couple of CAGcasts and thought it was just too silly and OT. But then I listened to a third episode and was hooked. It's now totally part of my routine listens. I'm trying to build a good bunch of podcast subscriptions so that I'm always supplied with new episodes for the commute. I prefer listening to talk in the morning rather than music. Right now my subscriptions are:
Active Time Babble - except it's dead. No new episodes. So that doesn't count.
CAGcast - super awesome coverage of new games and deals, new episodes often, and long shows. Good stuff.
CastAt Demonhead - Jeremy Signor's podcast that often features a lot of GameSpite writers. It's pretty hit or miss to me, and often a bit too unstructured for my taste. So I'm still on the fence if I'll continue to subscribe.
Racketboy Podcast - I don't know, some jerk with a beard talks about stuff like a know-it-all.
Retronauts Live - the now undead Retronauts is a weekly call-in show. Good stuff. One of my favorites if you didn't know.
RFGeneration Nation - Jess and Adam have definitely improved the show since episode 1. It' s a lot more structured now, which is great and they're obviously far more comfortable with each other as co-hosts. It needs to be published more consistently though. But I enjoy it.
but I still need more shows to keep the selection fresh. So let's get back to talking quality.

I'm glad you like the CAGcast! I still can't get on board with old or new Retronauts, but I agree that RFGen has improved gradually over time. I assume you checked out A Life Well Wasted? There's only a few episodes of that one, but the quality is outstanding.noiseredux wrote:so I listened to a couple of CAGcasts and thought it was just too silly and OT. Re: Recommended podcasts!
I've been subscribing to 1UP's Games Dammit and enjoying it for the past month or so. There's been some restructuring of the podcasts with Jeremy Parish as editor-in-chief. He's talking of Games Dammit (used to be hosted by Scooter) and Retronauts is being taken over by Bob Mackey.
I like JP hosting Dammit quite a bit, although it still has the same problem it did before: too much non-game talk before the game-talk.
Bob Mackey seems like a good pick for Retronauts. I think he's the type to really prepare for each episode, and ultimately I think it's going to feel more like Retronauts than Retronauts Live did. So that's fine with me.
I also have been really, really enjoying the new Joystiq podcast. It kind of bugs me that the CAGcast puts it down. I guess they don't get that they'd be an audience for such a show? Weird. But yeah, the Joystiq cast is excellent.
I gave up trying on Cast At Demonhead. Which makes me feel bad since it's primarily GameSpite writers. But I just can't get into it. It's just really slow and too unstructured for my taste.
Oh I've subscribed to IGN's Game Scoop which is mostly a terrible show. I basically listen to it when I've run out of other shows. It's a lot of talking over each other. And sometimes there's interesting topics, but I just don't feel like I agree with these gamers too much. Case in point: last episode they were saying they couldn't even grasp why gamers would be upset that a game was digital-only. The only argument they could come up with was that you wouldn't be able to trade the game into GameStop when you were done. But they were like "oh get over it" kind of thing. Like they couldn't understand the concept of gamers as collectors, who wanted to KEEP a nice physical product rather than buy a game for $60 and trade it into GS next week to buy another game. /rant.
so.............. as you can see I keep adding/subtracting to my subscriptions. So please, more good recommendations please!

Re: Recommended podcasts!
These are some of the podcasts I recommend/listen to weekly:
CAGcast - I like the coverage of new games and gaming deals for online/retail stores, very fun and entertaining
Giant Bombcast- great podcast about gaming with new releases and old games, and random discussions that are non-gaming related but are hilarious and entertaining
Invisible Walls(GameTrailers)- great podcast about news in gaming industry during the week, new releases, and interesting questions/discussions about industry in general
AJumpsBshoots- great podcast about classic/retro gaming, cool interviews with indie developers and other people in the gaming industry outside of development. Great discussions that give a unique perspective

Re: Recommended podcasts!
Damn noise I can't believe you had the patience to sit through an IGN podcast.
Anyway, I recommend Operation Kill Screen. Good people, good discussion, lots of retro talk.

Re: Recommended podcasts!
I don't really listen to podcasts much, but the ones that get my repeat business are the Racketboy podcast and the Experience Points podcast.
Obviously, check out the racketboy podcasts as dsheinem does a great job of organizing them and getting some interesting guests.
Experience Points is a blog I like to follow that usually discusses the artistry and philosophy of videogames. They have a regular podcast that is pretty decent.

Re: Recommended podcasts!
I'll have to check out some of these recent suggestions.
I've given All Gen Gamers a fair chance, but my patience is growing thin. I think they're ok hosts, but it can seriously be 30-60 mins before they get around to actually talking about video games. It drives me nuts.

The Yogpod (Aka The Yogscast, BlueXephos on Youtube) is my favorite podcast. The older ones are my favorites, and some jokes you might not get if you don't listen to the older ones, but overall its hilarious.
