I would love to see XBMC ported to the PS3, or at least a Linux port optimized for PS3 hardware. It's an awesome piece of software, but it's currently limited [effectively] to the oXbox, Apple TV, and HTPCs. A PS3 port could really make it shine. Yeah, I know, there is already a preliminary port out there, but it is incredibly difficult and time-consuming to install, so I've heard.AppleQueso wrote:I probably wouldn't use it for piracy at all, personally. Linux returns to PS3. Yes, that's both fat & slim models.

I'm mostly looking forward to being able to play Vesperia and Graces on the PS3 translated.

I wouldn't use it for piracy either. If quality emulators comes out for the PS3, that's what I would use this for.AppleQueso wrote:I probably wouldn't use it for piracy at all, personally. I'd just use it as an all encompassing media hub.

Exciting news! I play 99% of the cross platform stuff on 360 anyway and that's not going to change.
The exclusive PS3 games I'll still buy, but would love a comprehensive multimedia machine BoxEE or XBMC, emulators.
My PS3 would see more use than it sees now that's for sure.
EDIT: Looks like XBMC might be out of the window Spiff (one of the original XBMC devs) was asked if he'd consider working on a PS3 port and, to quote; "nah"
Still maybe someone else will give it a go.

The more I read about this, the more I am wondering if the PS3 is going to be the console Sony claimed would last a decade.
If they cannot fix this problem, then a lot of publishers are going to be very reluctant to put anything on the platform - it sounds like piracy on the PS3 would be even easier than it is on the Wii or Xbox360. No games = no revenue from licensing fees.
Has Sony issued a response yet?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Piracy has been trivial on the Wii for some time now, hasn't hurt it. Piracy was trivial during the last half of the PS2s life, didn't hurt it either. I'm not worried about it.Flake wrote: If they cannot fix this problem, then a lot of publishers are going to be very reluctant to put anything on the platform - it sounds like piracy on the PS3 would be even easier than it is on the Wii or Xbox360. Worst case scenario, nobody pays for PS3 software anymore. That just means that nobody values PS3 software anymore. That means that if they stop making PS3 software, nothing of value will have been lost.
The lack of DRM doesn't mean that the laws of economics don't apply anymore. If there's a demand, it will be met with supply. All this means is that the PS3 is an open market in which anyone can participate. Increased competition should result in better value for the consumer.
