The 32X Appreciation Thread
Re: The 32X Appreciation Thread
A 32x brings nothing new to the party with regular Genesis games. A Genesis game in a 32x isn't improved in anyway.

But it's totally understandable. How expensive would it have been when all that hardware was still on the market to actually have a Genesis, 32X, and a Sega CD? Why spend all that money when you knew Saturn was right around the corner was a single purchase?lisalover1 wrote:I always felt bad for the 32X as being a whole lot of lost potential. The Sega CD+32X combo is actually very powerful; as I have read, it is technically as powerful as the PS1. The fact that this combination's power was only used for some games to increase video resolutions is just sad. I would have loved to have seen some games that pushed the limits of the CD+32X; imagine a CD32x version of Doom or Wolfenstein!

Demos always make the real thing look better than it actually is. But cool to see nonetheless.Xonticus wrote:@dsheinem: Damn you! So jealous. I wish I still had the box to mine...![]()
I remember getting mine at Toys R Us back in the day for around 50 bucks including like 3 free games. I've gotten so much use out of it. Let me go count how many games I have for it... 19 including Corpse Killer. Wait! Make that 20 including Fahrenheit!
Slowly working on my collection.
Knuckles Chaotix has been one of my favourite 32x games, along side Star Wars Arcade.
Oh here is a 32x Tech Demo to add to the Appreciation Thread theme... this is what the 32x was truly capable of:

Re: The 32X Appreciation Thread
I owned a 32X.
Virtua Fighter was the best game IMO. It did things the Genny could never do. Plus it was actually fun on its own merits.
Unfortunately me playing Virtua Fighter inspired me to play Virtua Fighter 2 on my Saturn, which is identical gameplay with better graphics, and I had to facepalm, realizing just how obsolete the 32X is.
Every time I acquire a working 32X, I can never bring myself to keep it around. I always eBay or trade it to someone here.

So I got two answers:

I understand that it doesn't upscale or anything, and knew that from the get-go, but what constitutes as superior video out since I am using the same RCA cables? Is the hardware bettering the signal or something?BananaXX wrote:A 32x brings nothing new to the party with regular Genesis games. A Genesis game in a 32x isn't improved in anyway.
Re: The 32X Appreciation Thread
I may be wrong, though everything I have heard has been that the 32x does nothing for regular Genesis games.

But I have heard, and highly trust dsheinem, that there is some advantage. Logic tells me just a clearer signal but would like to know for sure.

Re: The 32X Appreciation Thread
I like my 32X, I don't love my 32X.
It's got the best Mortal Kombat 2 and NBA Jam in my opinion, two games that I really enjoy. I also really like Shadow Squadron and though it's not the version I'd play today I have fond memories of playing Doom when I was younger. I never could get into Knuckles Chaotix though.
And no, it doesn't do anything to normal Genesis games. I remember school-yard rumors about it but they're unfounded. The rumor that the 32X damages normal Genesis games is also a lie perpetrated by the other side of the console war.

Re: The 32X Appreciation Thread
Because it's there. I didn't say it was feasible or likely, I just thought it would be awesome to see what the ultra combo was capable of outside of a higher FMV resolution. I've seen some tech demos and unreleased games, and I have to say, it was awfully impressive.BurningDoom wrote:But it's totally understandable.
