Re: Wii console question
tnx Breetai and those that actually provided info for the help. I wound up just snagging the red anniversary edition at Target today. The black one would look better in the room, but i dont particularly care about having 2 sports games =P Plus i know for sure this has the motion plus built in and not just tacked on, im not sure about the black one. Oh and it helped that they were out of the black one and I didn't feel like driving to another Target to use the coupon >_<
It actually sounds like paper mario, mario bro's, ect are actually sequels to the games not just remakes. I figured they were remakes, especially paper mario and stuff, since they have the same name =P Its pretty great that the system is indeed backwards compatible, since I can get fire emblem now. It sounds like i do need to get a controller though. Is a memory card going to be required, or does this thing have an on board HD/memory storage option?
I'm actually not gonna open the system right now. I'll hold onto it until the holidays come to see if theres any even better deals out there. Since im in no major rush to open it up
Besides, I have a 360 and ps3 and have no desire whatsoever to get their motion control hardware. Honestly i think motion control is just gimicky at this point. Its not anywehre where it would need to be to actually be vialbe in a serious game. The wii will let me ease my niece into gaming and it may have a handful of games that will amuse me
OH ya, I guess i will ask about 2 games. How i sthe Okami remake for the wii? I LOVED that game on the ps2. That may be kinda cool if you can actually draw the stuff and its fairly accurate.
Mad world was one of the other games that looked a bit interesting to me. I notice its 8 bucks on amazon right now so i may want to just buy it now if its half decent
lol @ the starfox conversation that spun out of control here.
*edit* forgot to ask if you can actually plug the wii controller into the system or if its ALWAYS on batteries. I didn't get an answer to that question, just got told that it doesn't have an official battery pack or anything

i was only asking about the hardware because i was considering picking one up and wanted to make sure i got the best bundle with the latest motion tech, ect. I wasn't even sure i was going to get one, so people listing off games for something i wasn't even sure i was going to buy seemed unnecessary.Jrecee wrote:If you're only interested in the hardware. . . what's the point of the system? I mean it's a videogame system, it's only worth anything if it has games you want to play. The 360 and PS3 have superior hardware and they both offer motions controls now, which are also technologically superior to the wii's.kenshin-dono wrote:
Tnx guys, but like i said im not really looking for game suggestions yet i was just looking for info on the hardware itself.

*facepalm* Thats how i feel about some of you guys. Every time i make a post asking something a bunch of zealots have to chime in and flame me or insult me for not liking this system, or that one. Im stating my opinion and what i like and dont like, then asking for suggestions or info. Showing what i like and dont like helps with suggestions. I also value the opinions of people who are into old school gaming over random google thread searches.D.D.D. wrote:Geez. really? I guess you dont like rpgs then. The ps1 had some fantastic RPG's, and i actually view it as one of the better systems. Im actually in the process of collecting them all right now. I dont think the N64 even had one RPG that i can recall. And no, quest 64 doesn't count. Honestly i think i have about half a dozen N64 games which is just sad compared to how many games i have for all my other systems ranging from the NES up to the PS3flamepanther wrote:I feel the same way about the PS1...kenshin-dono wrote:It only had a couple decent games. Re: Wii console question
To save Gamecube game saves, you'll need a memory card, as well as a Gamecube controller to play the games - the Wii remotes, nunchuks, and classic controllers won't work with your Gamecube games. While it does in fact have on board memory, (very small, btw, so invest in an SD card!) you can't save Gamecube gamesaves on it...kenshin-dono wrote:

Regarding the Wii controllers, they come battery only - NO hookups for the system, so start buying stock in Duracell, or buy a third party charge kit, (I personally rock an Energizer charge kit with a charging pad. I think they're around 30$)
Also, so you know, Paper Mario is NOT a remake of any kind, it is a 2D side scroller with 3 dimensional elements as well as some very light RPG stats. I'm guessing it's more of an amalgamation of Gamecube's Paper Mario, SNES's Super Mario RPG, and the classic Super Mario Bros. games. It's a great game and really worth a look, but so you know, it's NOT a remake or a sequekl of any kind - it is it's own game! Enjoy the Wii!

I don't like RPGs! I guess you solved the mystery. I too think that the N64 has a far superior library to the PS1.kenshin-dono wrote:

N64 is my favourite console of all time, in fact. but anyway, I'll be nice and answer your last question - the Wiimote is always running on batteries. There's no way to connect it to the console physically. I personally have a set of rechargeable batteries which I have dedicated for Wii remote usage.
Re: Wii console question
For the record, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, along with New Super Mario Brothers Wii and also Mario Kart, integrate motion controls flawlessly. Sin & Punishment 2 and NiGHTS 2 does as well! It is probably some of the best use of motion control in any game, save for the Wii Sports and Wii Fit games. Basically, I am saying that you absolutely NEED those Mario games. I am not really that high on Mario 64 (NiGHTS on Saturn beat the heck out of it, in my opinion), but those Mario Galaxy games are insanely fun.

My only gripe, your opinions aside are your opinions, was that if you stated you were only looking for hardware information, why didn't you just check out Wikipedia?kenshin-dono wrote:*facepalm* Thats how i feel about some of you guys. At any rate, the Wii has a lot of fun games and you may like it.

The Wii is kind of this generations' Dreamcast, in that it has most of the fun and quirky games that you can't find anywhere else.

Re: Wii console question
It's not that I dislike RPGs, but I'm primarily an action gamer. RPGs are a genre I'm very picky about, so the only one on PS1 I liked enough to complete was Legend of Mana. I sort of liked FF Tactics, but got tired of it after a couple days. I had high hopes for Chrono Cross, but was bitterly disappointed--although I guess it would have been an OK game in its own right if there hadn't been a tenuous association with Chrono Trigger giving it too much to live up to.kenshin-dono wrote:really? The PS1, like most systems, has a few real gems in my collection (Omega Boost, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Mega Man Legends 1&2). However, most of the hugely popular action games were early, clumsy 3D games (Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, etc.) and to me are unplayable. Many people say those games simply don't age well, but I couldn't get into them at the time either. The action library was very weak compared to the hard-hitting games of the Saturn, and awkward and downright ugly compared to N64 (compare Rayman 2). The action and adventure gems on N64 seem relatively few, but they were of unmatched quality for their time: Mario 64 (arguably the first game to ever get 3D platforming right), both Zeldas (to which Soul Reaver and God of War owe a deep debt), Star Fox, Mischief Makers, Sin & Punishment, Jet Force Gemini, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and more. Many would add 007 Goldeneye and Perfect Dark to that list, but FPS is another genre I'm very picky about.
...
Wii has internal memory for save games, and they can also be backed up to an SD card. The space is limited, so if you start downloading WiiWare or Virtual Console games, you will definitely want one. Game Cube games have no access to any features or hardware of the Wii that were not present on the Cube, so GC memory cards will be a must. You'll need GC controllers for the GC games as well.
