wip3outguy7 says a bunch of stuff about Guardian Heroes not being worth the hassle
Are you serious? I'm fairly sure that the mindshare for Guardian Heroes at least matches if not exceeds the mindshare for Radiant Silvergun. GH has been played by most Saturn fans while RS was priced out of reach of most Saturn owners. Moreover, GH had a sequel of sorts on the GBA.
You really don't think a sprite-based Beat 'Em Up would do very, very well? Wasn't Scott Pilgrim vs The World the best selling PSN game last month? Isn't Castle Crashers considered by pretty much everybody to be a must-have for the X360? Even Final Fight: Double Impact has been doing pretty well, and that game is old as hell.
A Guardian Heroes re-release would sell obscenely well, especially if it had online co-op. Even without it, thought, it would do incredibly well.

Re: Radiant Silvergun coming to Xbox 360 / XBLA
I believe a lot of Saturn fans haven't played Guardian Heroes. The pricing gap between RS and GH doesn't matter much. There aren't many people (even classic gamers) willing to pay more than $50 for a nearly 15 year old game that isn't made by Square/Enix/Capcom/Konami and isn't on the Super Nintendo.
Some of its success is solely due to Scott Pilgrim being tied to a comic of the same name which has a very loyal and strong fan base. The game also mimics a gameplay style of a well known game which has been popculture sensationalized by people (who may or may not have played it) who have recently rediscovered the NES as the "greatest system of all time" (whether by their own personal opinion or by the need to fit in with the en vogue wave of "retro gaming") - River City Ransom.
I would call Castle Crashers a fluke, but I haven't played the game. I believe it somehow fits into the River City Ransom space on the nostalgia shelf. The gameplay seems kind of similar from the videos I have watched.
Final Fight is synonymous with the phrase "beat em' up". I would expect no less than it selling well.
When people have random conversations about videogames and the "shoot em' up" genre comes up, drawing blanks from FPS addicted "hardcore" gamers. What is normally referenced in an attempt to bring them up to speed? Galaga. Raiden. Ikaruga. This usually cascades into a discussion about how expensive the genre is and largely results in a mention of Radiant Silvergun.
When the beat em' up genre is mentioned in these random conversations... What games are usually referenced? You won't find Guardian Heroes in that list.
Treasure basically said "no way" 4 years ago when the release of Ikaruga on XBL led to the unavoidable questions about Radiant Silvergun. It has taken almost 4 years of fan letters and requests for them to go ahead with the risk.
Believe me, I would love to be proven wrong.

I've heard many a folk say they'd love to see an online co-op version of Guardian Heroes. Maybe I hang with a different crowd, but I rarely heard Radiant Silvergun brought up - even among fans of Ikaruga. To be completely honest with you, I rarely, RARELY heard anyone bring up Radiant Silvergun, while Guardian Heroes tends to get brought up with every conversation involving the Saturn.
Beat 'Em Up genre is a lot more stable than you think, and I think it's a little silly to call Castle Crashers' success "a fluke". Also, many of the people who bought Scott Pilgrim vs The World (including myself) had never heard of the property until the game came out.
I just tried out Radiant Silvergun, actually. Thank God I didn't spend $100+ on it, is all I gotta say. I've played it, got frustrated with it, and I doubt I'll ever play it again. A shame. Of course, I was playing it with absolutely no instruction or even a hint as to how the game is supposed to work.

What did you expect? Ikaruga would also be just as frustrating if you didn't know how to play it properly. Heck, Mario 3 would be as well if you didn't realize you could fly.

Ha ha ha - The Super Mario Bros series is kinda the poster child of an intuitive game. You NEVER need to read the instructions to enjoy a Mario game.Breetai wrote: What did you expect? THAT'S WHAT I EXPECT! I expect to not HAVE to read a guide in order to enjoy the game. I expect the game to be designed intuitively enough that I don't have to exit the game and study up on Gamefaqs to learn the intricacies of the game.
Ikaruga was pretty easy to learn. There's a shot button, and a shift button. Shift to absorb one kinda bullet, shift again to absorb the other kind. Easy peasy. You learn it in about 2 minutes.
I got through about 3 stages of Radiant Silvergun and I still had no earthly idea what the hell I was supposed to be doing.

for the most part, yeah. but if you're playing for high score there's color-coded chaining (red, blue, yellow) and you can power up your weapons which will score you more points. also if you destroy the sections of the bosses before the "core" you will be awarded more points.final fight cd wrote:can you explain this? i have never played RS, let alone seen game play footage of it. don't you just shoot and dodge bullets?the7k wrote: I got through about 3 stages of Radiant Silvergun and I still had no earthly idea what the hell I was supposed to be doing.
it seems like using certain weapons at certain times gives you weapon bonuses and there are also secret bonuses hidden throughout the game
& when RS HD comes out I'm sure they will have all sorts of extra "accomplishments"

Re: Radiant Silvergun coming to Xbox 360 / XBLA
You have a red, blue and yellow shot. There are red, blue and yellow enemies. Do I shoot them with the same color, or is there a rock-paper-scissors thing going on? I can't tell.final fight cd wrote: can you explain this? i have never played RS, let alone seen game play footage of it. don't you just shoot and dodge bullets?
If I hold two attack buttons at the same time, I use another type of shot depending on the buttons held in combination. What is this shots purpose?
I have this sword that I activate by holding all three buttons at the same time. It doesn't do squat for damage and it rarely deflects bullets. What's the point?
There were parts where you had to navigate extremely narrow corridors 100% filled with turrets. Even with me using my diagonal shot, I still found it quite impossible to get through this area without dying.
I remember there was this one boss that I fought for what seemed like forever. He'd spam beams, shots and what looked like a torrent of magma all over the place, and if I somehow evaded this, parts of his ship would separate and attack me from behind. I tried shooting him with every shot and combination of shot, and it never seemed to do much. I was seriously at a lose for what I was supposed to do.
After running out of credits, I just gave up. I like shmups, but not enough to metaphorically bang my head into the desk over and over again until it starts feeling good.
